Paigey Cakey – Boyfriend (Prod. by Nutty P/Music Video/iTunes)

Paigey Cakey is currently one of the UK’s best-kept secrets. The 23-year- old from Hackney is a bonafide workaholic entrepreneur, having already stacked a formidable list of releases for someone barely into their twenties – four EPs and a mixtape and counting – Paigey now comes through with something new from her upcoming ‘Red Velvet’ EP.

Following the critical success of her first two releases from it, ‘Boogie’ and ‘Pattern’, her new track ‘Boyfriend’ is another strategically-placed sophisticated banger set to cement her status as one of the most talented and productive females emcees in the country right now. Continuous support from the likes of BBC R1, 1XTRA, Capital Xtra and Rinse FM is testament to her independent hustle.

‘Boyfriend’ is a female hustler’s track that shouts out female independence and equality with the men – a telling reference given her stated ambitions with both Skepta and Giggs. She’s got the bravado and work-ethic to do it: having already supported Eve and Lil Kim on the London leg of their Eve Of Destruction tour – possibly the most coveted opening slot in recent memory – her dedication to the craft and output place her among the UK’s rising stars.

There are untold strings to Paigey’s bow: chances are you know her face from major roles in the BBC’s ‘Waterloo Road’ and London’s 2011 cult UK horror film ‘Attack The Block’. Though Paigey is focusing on her music this year, she’s still found time to work on a couple of projects; even when the multi-talented artist slows down, her work-rate still outpaces the competition.
