‘Signs’ is the debut single to come from eclectic underground artist ‘SAAL’. Pulling together Eastern and Western influences she is an artist that needs not only to be seen or heard, but experienced. Compared by the industry to Kate Bush and PJ Harvey; SAAL combines styles, breaks genres and experiments with her sweeping vocal range to make music that is nothing short of hypnotic.
Of Dutch and Indian descent with a proportion of her family residing in South America, SAAL needn’t look far for styles to influence her sound. SAAL welcomes her roots into her music with open arms and the evidence of her eclectic background is crystal clear. Her productions are a testament to her talents and the influences that have created the link between the two. Since moving to London, SAAL has set up her own recording studio, allowing her to record and produce her own vocals and enabling collaborations with a host of electronic producers. Amsterdam, beyond providing her with a degree in music management, also kickstarted her now true love: electronic music. Bass, breakbeats, progressive house and trance have all played a monumental role in her soundscape; enhancing her desires to delve deeper underground and create music that’s dark, effective and laced with hyper-modern energy.
In addition to her adoration for all things electronic, SAAL is impacted by her love of traditional Indian vocals and instruments; the two combined capture her sense of exploration and her natural curiosity for experimental music. SAAL uses her music and her contrasting influences to skilfully show that there is more than one side to her. It’s her striking originality, euphoric live performances and an all round gorgeousness that earns SAAL her title as a truly captivating artist.
SAAL introduces ‘Signs’ like something from a planet unknown with a nod towards something seriously sci-fi. Atmospheric vocals, low end frequencies and stabs of sonic bass come together to create something eerie and eclectic before the vibe transforms at drum and bass speed, forming something high octane and dance floor ready.
“SAAL’s got an incredibly well hindered agenda within her sound, and it’s one that comes across as so individual.” “We’re super stoked to be hearing such a diverse, well rounded sound from a new artist.” – Purple Sneakers
‘Signs’ will be released 9th October, 2015.
