Bonkaz is a pioneer of the ‘New Generation’, a movement currently breathing new life and energy across the landscape of UK rap – Complex
Accessible, but still credible, the addictive track see’s Bonkaz wearing his influences on his sleeve as he samples Dizzee Rascal’s Armand Van Helden-produced number one single ‘Bonkers’, and spits about growing up on Kano, More Fire Crew and Channel U.
“This song is both an introduction to me and an example of me having fun with the music,” says Bonkaz. “A well known sample that coincidentally has my name in it, it was a no-brainer for me, especially as I grew up on Dizzee Rascal”.
Having already had a huge year, breaking through with ‘We Run The Block’, feeding the streets with his ‘Forgive Me When I’m Famous’ EP and fresh off headlining Pigeons & Planes ‘No Ceilings’ event, Bonkaz has the kind of energy that attracts a wide audience. He’s already proven his ability to flip from a mosh-pit starting grime banger to a melodic slow jam about love – and ‘You Don’t Know’ is set to cement his name even further afield.
‘You Don’t Know’ is a key release on the rapid rise of a new British star.
“With this record I feel I was able to keep my rawness and the flows but also have a fun record that’s very accessible,” he says. “Let’s go Bonkaz!”
