After A 2 Year Wait, The Godfather of Japanese Hip Hop is Back!
Fresh from releasing the much anticipated record ‘Butterfly Effect‘ on 30th October, we are extremely proud to present the legendary pioneer of Japanese hip-hop DJ Krush. He will be flying in from Tokyo to play a very rare set, and his first London show in 2 years, at Electric Brixton on Saturday 19th March.
With a career spanning over 20 years, DJ Krush is still setting the mark as one of the biggest and most accomplished innovators in the game, sited as a huge influence to beatmakers from Flying Lotus to Daddy Kev, and tastemakers like Gilles Peterson.
Following his debut in 1994, Krush has gone on to release countless records and has played to millions across the globe. His last sell-out show at KOKO had everyone in a frenzy, where he delivered a masterclass in layering and beat manipulation, whilst blowing the place apart.
DJ Krush’’s brand of instrumental Hip Hop took the genre to a whole different level, an influence that is still felt today in the vast swathe of West Coast Hip Hop championed by the Stones Throw and Brainfeeder crews as well as new acts of the caliber of Shabazz Palaces and Ratking.
The new album ‘Butterfly Effect’ will be Krush’s first in 11 years and so with a catalogue of new music to play out, you do not want to sleep on this one. Flying in from Tokyo especially, witness the maverick in action at Electric Brixton next March, where he will take you on a journey of some of the finest beats imaginable.
Supporting Krush is a super talented producer and musician who we are really excited about, Free The Robots. Part of the Brainfeeder crew, he is currently making waves with his fusion of jazz, psych, electronic and Hip Hop.
Reforming after a 5-year hiatus especially for this show, we are excited to bring you Aticca Blues, label mates of DJ Krush on the Mo’wax label. Having worked with DJ Krush in the past, the group will only add to the enormity that will be this night.
‘My style is a composite of everyone I’ve seen and played with. I’ve on tour with people like DJ Krush who had a completely unique perspective’ – DJ Shadow
‘He was super influential for me’ – Flying Lotus
‘It was DJ Shadow and DJ Krush’s early work on Mo’Wax that really sparked the concept of instrumental, musically ambitious Hip Hop in my mind’ – Kidkaneval
