Pharoahe Monch is as exciting as ever today. As likely to provoke thought as he is a mosh pit this is an underground MC speaking the truth through real Hip Hop.
The Queens, NY MC has been around since the early 90s when he was one half of seminal hip-hop duo Organized Konfusion, highly respected and acclaimed in the underground scene, responsible for classic albums like ‘Stress: The Extinction Agenda’.
Monch released his impeccable solo debut ‘Internal Affairs’ (1999), featuring the monster ‘ Simon Says’ on Rawkus Records, a label which helped to ignite the careers of artists like Mos Def and Talib Kweli, who he has worked with amongst other well known artists such as Busta Rhymes, Common, Erykah Badu and Black Thought.
His 2014 album ‘PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)’ details his battles with the record industry and against severe depression. Monch narrates as an independent artist weary from the war against the industry machine and through the struggle of the black male experience in America” and triumphs as a lyrically talented, politically conscious rapper with an inspiring message during a time of chain-swanging trap-pop and braggalicious dance rap.
In his words, “To get in there and put my fuckin’ soul on these songs…that’s what it’s about”.
