One of Dagenham’s finest exports and recognised UK grime MC’s, Devlin returns in 2016 to restake his claim on the scene with his standout new single Bitches, released through his self-titled imprint this April.
A bolshie emphatic statement of intent, ‘Bitches’ is the first single to be taken from Devlin’s highly anticipated third studio album, ‘The Devil In’ penned for release later this year.
Preceded by the more sinister sounding ‘Castella Freestyle’, which teased the 26-year-old’s return at the latter end of 2015, ‘Bitches’ is a back-to-basics energetic twist on misogynistic stereotypes and taking aim at the gossipy, backstabbing men Devlin’s encountered in his life. Accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek visual, shot on his native streets of Dagenham, the video directed by Myles Whittingham (Giggs, Cortes, Young Spray, Skepta) showcases Devlin’s unmistakable flow and old-school grime conviction reminiscent of his early mixtape days.
Both tracks are produced by duo and decade-long friends Term X Rachet, who feature as producers throughout The Devil In and in tern make this one of Devlin’s most cohesive and direct releases to date.
With multiple top 10 singles, a gold-selling album by way of sophomore LP A Moving Picture, and recently gaining the honour of being grime godfather Wiley’s favourite MC, Devlin’s ‘Bitches’ and imminent LP ‘The Devil In’, finds him recapturing that signature old-school grime spit, that in short, showcases of all the reasons why Wiley described Devlin as,
“Overlooked because he’s so good”.
