Geko releases his brand new video for ‘Y‘ featuring Afro B and produced by iLL BLU
Manchester-born Geko drops the visuals for what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest summer anthems of 2016. Of North African Heritage and growing up in Manchester, the young star continues to shine at the forefront of a genre-defying scene. Proving that he can go one step further, the visuals shot in Cova Da Moura, Lisbon encapsulate the energy of the One Tape Records Boys, the Angolan locals, and featured newcomer Afro B. Reflecting the energy, fulfilment of life and cultural history of the song, Portugal created the perfect setting for this video.
Speaking on Y, “As soon as I heard the backing track, the melodies and the words came to me naturally. I like to mix North African, Arabic and Western melodies as it’s a sound that represents all of my influences” says Geko. “The video is about me and my friends travelling to Portugal and catching a vibe with the locals out there , they showed us around their neighbourhood and made us feel welcome”.
After selling out his headline tour at the end of 2015, proving that his infectious positive energy and ability to create and catch a vibe goes far beyond his social media command of his staggering 135K followers on Instagram. This unique amalgamation of sound has resonated with fans globally and amassed nearly 6 million views on his stand-out track ‘Baba’ alone, as well as over 25 million combined views on his YouTube Channel ‘One Tape Records’.
Geko continues to impress by making strides through the UK scene; from being the youngest person to ever step inside Charlie Sloth’s Fire in the Booth, to collaborating with premiere UK artists such as Lady Leshurr, Moelogo, and WSTRN on their platinum-selling In2 Remix alongside Chip & Wretch 32.
‘Y’ stands as a summer anthem set to dominate for rest of the year.
