Paigey Cakey is currently one of the UK’s best-kept secrets. The 23-year- old from Hackney is a bonafide workaholic; having already stacked a formidable list of releases for someone barely into their twenties – four EPs and a mixtape and counting – Paigey now comes through with her fifth EP ‘Red Velvet’, released on Christmas Day!
Continuous support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Capital Xtra and Rinse FM is testament to her independent hustle and following a landmark year for the young Hackney emcee with consistently high-quality: ‘Boogie’, ‘Pattern’ and ‘Boyfriend’, Paigey has now announced a UK nationwide tour of Manchester, Birmingham and London starting in late Jan/ Feb 2017.
Heavy in the scene right now with the brightest emerging female emcees at the moment incl. Stefflon Don, it’s only right that the new talent is paying homage to one of the realest female entrepreneurs in the city. Speaking on the EP release,
Paigey states: “Red velvet is probably my best piece of work yet; very bouncy, infused with dope Hip Hop and trappy sounds. The songs all have different meanings – ‘Special’ is a very special song as it means something to me. I went through the same situation I’m speaking about”.
Chances are you know Paigey’s face from major roles in the BBC’s ‘Waterloo Road’ and London’s 2011 cult UK horror film ‘Attack The Block’. Though Paigey is focusing on her music this year, she’s still found time to work on a couple of projects; even when the multi-talented artist slows down, her work-rate still outpaces the competition.
“Hugely talented” – MTV.
“Conquering her place on the scene since 2012” – THE405.
