Join Soundcrash celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Ninja Tune founders, Coldcut, with some very special guests and a brand new AV show
The electronic music duo composed of Matt Black and Jonathan More are credited as pioneers for pop sampling in the ‘80s, Coldcut are also considered the first stars of UK electronic dance music due to their innovative style, which featured cut-up samples of Hip Hop, breaks, jazz, spoken word and various other types of music, as well as video and multimedia. Due to incredible work ethic and constant innovation, even a brief trawl through their various activities looks like a large chapter of a big book.
Coldcut are the founders of Ninja Tune, one of the top independent record labels in the UK, focusing on encouraging interactive technology and finding innovative uses of software. The label’s first releases (the first four volumes of DJ Food – ‘Jazz Brakes’) were produced by Coldcut in the early 90’s and composed of instrumental Hip Hop cuts that led the duo to help pioneer the Trip Hop genre, with artists such as Funky Porcini, The Herbaliser, and DJ Vadim. They are also responsible for the seminal mix series, Solid Steel, which 29 years on is still going strong and still highly revered within the world of music.
Ninja Tune is a true power house in the world of future-gazing music since it began over 25 years ago its reputation has been built purely on its quality and originality. Releasing artists such as Bonobo, Roots Manuva, Amon Tobin, DJ Food & The Cinematic Orchestra is a feat not many labels can claim. Coldcut themselves are as irrepressible as ever, lauded as the number 3 DJ’s of all time by Music Radar, and with new album ‘Outside the Echo Chamber’ released this May, the duo continues to cement their place at the forefront of electronic music.
