New York-based Balkan Beat Box release THIS TOWN, an Award Winning music video collaboration with Blackboard Studios and directors, Too Short For Modeling
Balkan Beat Box is happy to announce the release of ‘This Town’, a music video collaboration with Blackboard Studios and directors, Too Short For Modeling.
The ambitious animated video portrays the touring band lifestyle from the point of view of the smallest creatures. A mouse hitching a ride on tour comes home exhilarated and world-weary, happy to be home. The video was officially selected by Berlin Music Video Awards and won best music video at the Los Angeles Film Awards 2017.
VFX Animator and Producer Noam Moaz worked with directors (and good friends) Noam Sharon & Tal Rosenthal, working under the moniker, Too Short For Modeling, who created the concept.
“We immediately loved it. We shot almost all of the scenes in our studio on miniature sets and had a blast producing the video and the animation on this project. The collaboration with BBB was a natural choice since the video talks about being loyal to yourself and they were brave enough to go along with such a crazy idea”.
‘This Town’, from the album, ‘Shout It Out‘, talks about the push and pull of touring life, how music drives the artist to travel around the world bringing music to people where they live, and the pull of home. The story is told by a mouse who slips into the band’s gear and travels with them around the world, partying and dancing. As his face gets more and more haggard, he has to decide whether to keep going with the band or stay behind.
“For me,” says BBB saxophonist Ori Kaplan, “it was the song of my return to Tel Aviv after 15 years of living in NYC. Back to the town, I love very much. I missed everything about it and was ready to come home”.
Asked about working in with animals in the shoot, Ori says,
“There were actually a few mice. The mouse had many doubles so if one got tired there was another one who looked the same. They were very well treated on the set and no animal abuse was taking place whatsoever. We thank the mice!!!”
Balkan Beat Box is comprised of Ori Kaplan, percussionist Tamir Muskat, and singer Tomer Yosef.
For over a decade, the Israeli trio has ignited fans with their energetic beats and quick rhymes, drawing influences from their Eastern European heritage, as well as punk, jazz, reggae, Hip Hop, and a mix of world music.
