Urban Vault caught up with Boston based emcee M-Dot, to ask him some questions about his latest release RICHOCHET, and more…

M-Dot the Boston bred, blue collar emcee, is the Winner of the 2 most prestigious Massachusetts awards (previously won by Guru, Edo G, Mr. Lif). Has toured the world (Europe 6 times) sharing the stage with Wu-Tang, Boot Camp Clik, Kid Cudi, Wiz Khalifa, Slaughterhouse, Ryan Leslie, N.O.R.E and many more. Has records alongside A.O.T.P, Gangstarr Foundation, M.O.P, Red Café & more.

Boston, Massachusetts.

How long have you been making music?

Been writing music since around 1998. Been recording music since about 1999. Started to record and learned to mix my records more professionally in 2002. And have kept growing since.

How many songs /albums have you released to date?

Have too many mixtapes when I was coming up. But several that may stand out.

For albums….in 2010 I was featured as the main MC on a collab album ‘Run MPC’ with DJ/producer DJ Jean Maron. In 2017 released my official solo debut album “egO anD The eneMy”. Have also dropped a few vinyls & early EMS (my group) projects. I know we are in a time where constant album releases are prevalent. Nonetheless, I still believe in taking time with a project and building up anticipation. I’d rather make as perfect of a product as I can oppose to over-saturating. We took time with “egO” and it was worth it with all the accolades and sales it has accrued. Part 2 is on the way… Also look out for an EMS project.bAnd a special collab album I’m working on as well.

Can you tell us about your most recent release ‘Richochet’, the background, and inspirations behind it?

‘Ricochet’ I wrote recorded and shot the video in 24 hours while in Leipzig (Germany). I really dig this record. Thank you to Whatson (production), Arvid (video) & Sensus (mix/master). It will forever be cool to me knowing I have talented friends all around the world. This was the third time the above combination has done the trifecta (write/record/video) together in Germany. Blessed as I mentioned to have built so many great relationships.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your Career?

My favorite people to work with are my crew. Family first. EMS!!! Building from within makes you stronger and offers more longevity. Random ‘name’ features mean nothing years later if the song doesn’t have an organic feel. Far as other artists I’ve been lucky to work with….. Hi Tek, Large Professor, Method Man, Marley Marl.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Black Milk, Redman, 9th Wonder.

What inspires you when you make your music?

Got 3 beautiful children and my wifey that inspire me every single day to be better at everything I invest my time into.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

I always loved writing. After I started getting paid to perform shows in college I took it more serious for sure.

What do you think of the music industry in 2018?

lol. I got tunnel vision. I don’t listen to much rap.

What have you got planned for 2018?

Working on ego and the enemy 2. Preparing for another Europe tour in August. Including rocking at HipHop Kemp in Czech Republic.

What’s your favorite track at the moment?

I dig the new Royce joint caterpillar.

What do you do when your not making Music?

Every free second away from music I try and do family activities with the kids.
