Calgary, Alberta-based artist Stickybuds drops his new track, THE FIRESTARTER, featuring Bristol, UK-based Blackout JA, released via Westwood Recordings, taken from his upcoming album TAKE A STAND, released on July the 20th
Last month, Calgary-based DJ and producer, Stickybuds, returned with a loaded new single and music video, ‘Crooked Politicians‘ featuring Richard Kim, via Westwood Recordings. The first taste of what’s to come from Stickybuds’ upcoming debut full-length album, ‘Take A Stand,’ released July the 20th. ‘Crooked Politicians’ not only showcased a refreshing take on the producer’s trademark electronic-funk sound but also acted as a vehicle for Stickybuds’ activism as he put international politicians on full blast in a bewitching four-minute animation that resonates with fans on all sides of the political spectrum. Today, Stickybuds is continuing his sonic and political campaign with his new single ‘The Firestarter,’ featuring Bristol, UK-based Reggae artist Blackout JA.
The second single off his debut album, ‘The Firestarter’ is an invigorating call to arms that further blasts political corruption. In addition to the songs rousing message, fans will notice an exhilarating new direction for the sound of Stickybuds as he ventures away from his more well-known, electronic funk output. A nearly four-minute anthem, ‘The Firestarter’ is a full-on, bass-heavy, Drum N’ Bass roller. Providing the ideal foundation for the boisterous and robust vocals of Blackout JA, whom fans may remember from Stickybuds’ noteworthy 2011 release, ‘All Blazin,’ and multiple cameos over the years in his Shambhala sets. ‘The Firestarter’ revitalizes the magic between the two collaborators and solidifies Stickybuds remarkable production versatility.
From the funky depths of Western Canada, Tyler Martens better known as Stickybuds has been touring the world for over a decade performing at such festivals as Glastonbury (UK), Breakfest (AUS), Boomtown (UK), Envision (Costa Rica), Burning Man (USA), as well as having a residency at the world-renowned Shambhala Music Festival in Canada.
Martens’ hard work in the studio has not been unrecognized. In 2017 his collaboration with fellow Westwood artist K+ Lab, titled ‘Clap Ya Hands Now,’ was featured in the ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ trailer (Sony Pictures), and has accumulated over 250K streams on Spotify and Apple Music combined. The track also spent 10 months in the #1 spot on Beatport as their top-selling Glitch Hop song.
