One Love Festival 2018 is back with a brand new venue, Gilcombe Farm, Bruton (Near Glastonbury), Somerset.
Johnny Osbourne (‘The King of Dancehall’) Johnny Osbourne is one of the most popular Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer of all time, who rose to success in the late 1970’s and mid-1980s. Known as the Godfather of Dancehall, He is probably best known for his mid-1980s dancehall reggae hits ‘Buddy Bye’, ‘Ice Cream Love’ and ‘Water Pumping’ In 2012, his track ‘Mr. Marshall’ was sampled on Major Lazer’s single ‘Jah No Partial’. The Mighty Diamonds are a Jamaican harmony trio, recording roots reggae with a strong Rastafarian influence. The group was formed in 1969 and remains together as of 2012. They are best known for their 1976 debut album Right Time produced by Joseph Hoo and the 1979 release, Deeper Roots.
Twinkle Brothers were formed in 1962 by brothers Norman (vocals, drums) and Ralston Grant (vocals, rhythm guitar) from Falmouth, Jamaica The band was expanded with the addition of Eric Barnard (piano), Karl Hyatt (vocals, percussion), and Albert Green (congas, percussion). After winning local talent competitions, they recorded their first single, ‘Somebody Please Help Me’ in 1966 for producer Leslie Kong This was followed by sessions for other top Jamaican producers such as Duke Reid, lee scratch perry, Bunny Lee.
RASTA VILLAGE 
IQulah Rastafari Gideon Family presents Rasta Village in association with the Rastafari Andahnet Center (St Ann, Jamaica) and the Ethiopian World Federation.
Hosted by Iqulah Rastafari – Iqulah is the president of EWF Charter 17 in his home of St. Ann, Jamaica and has been an International Chaplin for the last 3yrs Rastafari is rightly associated with Jamaica for defending Emperor Haile Selassie the First. The island of Jamaica gave birth to the movement in the 1930’s. Rastafari is an Abrahamic faith that adheres to much of The Bible, though Rastafarians worship Haile Selassie I, former emperor of Ethiopia. Rastafari culture rejects many of the conditions of modern society they consider degenerate, including materialism, oppression, and sensual pleasures. They refer to this corrupt version of society as “Babylon,” which is directly opposite of “Zion,” the promised land, often considered Ethiopia. While many Rastas choose not to cut their hair and wear dreadlocks, it is not an absolute for believers.
Rasta Village will be highlighting the way of life of the Rastafari movement. The Ethiopian World Federation will present a workshop on the works and times of HIM Haile Selassie 1st, the early rise of the Ras Tafari and the Ethiopian movements. As you approach you’ll hear the traditional Nyabinghi drumming and chanting getting louder and the natural smell of the wood fire pit and Herb and Spice Garden In the Village you’ll be surrounded by the Rastafarian life in motion and will see the principles of living in harmony with nature and the role of Haile Selassie I. You have an opportunity to witness food preparation through the Ital village kitchen, showing the vegetables, herbs, and spices used in Rastafarian cooking, showing the nutritional and culinary importance of each ingredient Including:

A herb library where your guide will explain the medicinal properties of the many herbs grown there and, in some cases, those which scientists are beginning to investigate for their use in scientific remedies. A meditative temple where you can engage in your own private contemplation. Throughout the proceedings, there is a traditional drum and chanting session in the center of the village. With Herbal tea and fresh fruit available to purchase whilst you listen or even join the join the drummers at the end of the session. Traditional jewelry, clothing and herbal remedies are made and sold in the village.

The Clash and its Reggae Connection: When The Clash was recording their debut album in February 1977, they were asked to come up with an extra track. As big reggae fans, their answer was to cover Police & Thieves, a contemporary club hit by Jamaican singer Junior Murvin. The Clash gave the song their own edgy rock makeover, a move that kick-started Punk’s lasting connection with militant black music, and opened up the band’s music to a strong reggae influence.
Bob Marley, Joe Strummer, and the Punky Reggae Party
Marley’s single Punk Reggae Party put a name to an underground phenomenon – the coming together of the Punks and the Rastas at the height of 70s social unrest. That era may be over, but the Punky reggae spirit still lives and breathes with Strummerville at Glastonbury Festival and now One Love Festival Originally a Scratch production sung by Junior Murvin, the track’s cynical realism had helped it become a Punk anthem. At first, listen, Bob and Scratch were startled by Joe Strummer’s harsh bark, compared to
Murvin’s mellifluous falsetto. “It is different, but me like ’ow ’im feel it,” was Marley’s verdict, though. He liked the link between the two tribes of alienated, youth – Punks and Rastafari. “Punks are outcasts from society. So are the Rastas. So they are bound to defend what we defend,” Marley concluded. The Space of Love is our dedicated field of holistic, wellbeing and spiritual awakening a place to relax, participate and expand your minds with one or as many of our workshops as you desire. A central marquee will be the heart of activity where you can enjoy workshops such as; yoga, sound baths, meditations, communal drumming sessions and active art exhibitions. Our mindful workshops have been selected for both children and adults alike, spreading a message of Love, community, and empowerment. The Space of Love will provide you with a happy and welcoming environment where you can contemplate the many unseen wonders of our world in a big bubble of Love. Situated around the marquee hub will be some carefully handpicked stalls amongst the trees to explore offering services such as healing and massage Each morning between 9am and 11am we will have a variety of meditations, yoga and sound therapies, equally great for you early birds and you sleepy heads, let us lull you into a day of tranquil rejuvenation. Throughout the day you can sample many alternative therapies, gain insight from different concepts or take part in some of our spiritual arts and crafts workshops. Below is a taste of some of the activities available, we look forward to meeting you.
Sound System History
The sound system concept first became popular in the 1950s, in the ghettos of Kingston. DJs would load up a truck with a generator, turntables, and huge speakers and set up street parties. An important part of sound system culture is the sound clash, an organized battle between two or more systems. The culture of the Sound System was brought to the UK with the mass immigration of Jamaicans in the 1960’s and 70’s.
