London based emcee/spoken word Artist/educator Christian Foley, who has gained support from the likes of 50 Cent and Akala, drops his latest project, the four-track EX EP
The album cover of ‘EX’, the new EP by Christian Foley, depicts a man half in shadow, with his eyes covered. It is not the aesthetic you would expect from an artist whose career has enjoyed a rapid rise in visibility in the last year. While Christian’s freestyle ability won him international acclaim, prime-time television slots and millions of views – he maintains that such success is illusory.
The ‘EX’ EP is a story told in the early hours of the morning when the cameras are off. Christian proves himself as a storyteller, crafting a narrative over soul samples and trap drums – it is narrative of lust, ruined loves and lost control. Whether he’s repeating his father’s infidelities on Temptation or depicting a trail of failed relationships on Girls – Christian is brutally honest to the core, justifying his position as one of the leading voices in the UK poetry scene.
In just four tracks, Christian tells the beginning of a story. ‘EX’ is part one of a trilogy. It precedes a following EP COMMUNICATION and an album, comprising of the two works EXCOMMUNICATION. All three releases are narrated by Christian’s mother, who remains unaware, for the duration, that her son, for all his flaws, is making cutting-edge, innovative, heart-breaking Hip Hop.
“Guy’s got lyrics” – Akala.
“He’s got some flow” – 50 Cent.
