Urban Vault caught up with Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York-based emcee Haile Ali to ask him some questions about his forthcoming album with French producer Kyo Itachi, and more…
Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York-based Haile Ali & French-based producer Kyo Itachi present ‘Cusah Heights’, Melodic but raw, true poetry in motion the two compliment each other very well. Unique among many at this time,
“Walk with me don’t follow me there” Haile Ali quotes, “From Cusah Heights (Crown Heights) to Paris”,
This is one for the real crate diggers with an acquired taste, taken off their upcoming album ‘Black Ninjutsu’ entirely produced by Kyo Itachi.
What is your name?
Haile Ali aka The Root Doctor aka Sifu SharpSword, haha!
Where are you from?
The HILLTOP, Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York
How long have you been making music?
I say about 8 years now, tho I’ve been rhyming and recording for a while since I was 13, 14, but it ain’t really meant nothing much, but fun until I was a little older.
Tell us more about your latest release?
My latest release is my forthcoming album with Kyo Itachi…’Black Ninjutsu’, I cooked up something for those who like Pearls being given in rhythm, feel me, check it out let me know what y’all think?
How did the collab come about, what prompted you guys to work together?
I did a track for my Big Brother Cash Bilz a couple years back for a joint they cooked up, I didn’t know it was from Itachi, WORD!. And I had seen his work, and I’m like you know what let me reach out and see if I could build with him, cause I always wanted a whole Record with that Sound he Manifest, and he hit me with a game plan from the first initial talk and we been Fashioning some ill joints since then…It was Kyo that let me know he knew about me since that feature I thought I was foreign to him, so I would say it’s that feature I did on Cash project.
What type of sounds and content will listeners experience by pressing play?
You already know Itachi gives you that ill Golden Era hard hitting drums, all crazy sound, but the Swing is unique, lyrically it’s I self…My Rhymes gonna paint Images in the Mind for sure, honestly I rather the listeners determine that everybody may have an experience unique in their own rite when they listen.
Who else have you collaborated with so far in your career?
I have done joints with Bankai Fam and Cash Bilz, that’s really because we were from the same hood Crown Heights be home to many sharp swords, word!… I don’t really feature with a lot artist I spend more time be on some Microphone Soloist shit, but I’m always open to collab with others if the Sound and Energy right and exact.
What inspires you when you make your music?
The Universe if Everything, so everrrythinggg! And Self being in the midst of it All.
How have you ended up in the music industry?
Music is always being created, I do it for the Love of the Art and Mental Reflection. The industrious side is just apart of the Cipher that can’t be ignored if I want my sound to travel, word!
What is your opinion on music streaming and social media?
Streaming is dope but I’m still into buying projects, I think if you love the sound purchase it …Streams make the sound more accessible to the world so that’s peace, but I’m old school with it, Cop My Shit to! Haha…
Facebook or Twitter?
Facebook and Twitter are great tools if you know how to use them, or it can be your destruction, I spoke with Kyo First on FB before I met him in the physical, so again you can use it to Build or Destroy as an Artist and Businessman. It’s a tool that’s great you can reach across the world in a second. It’s how you do it.
What’s your favourite track at the moment?
Right NOW some joint that’s on my next project hahaha. I’m always Building and my favourite track changes it’s all about my mind state and current action or even emotional state, word, but y’all gone hear it next quarter for sure!
What do you do when you are not making music?
Yang Style Tai Chi, I Read! Reading is a Meditation for me, I meditate, I travel but to be honest, music is being made all the while, so its when I’m not recording haha. But word I’m a Yang Style Tai Chi Instructor out here in NYC… I’m also into Arts and Medium of Arts. Enriching my Mind and Body ALWAYS!
What have you got planned for 2019?
Music Aside I will be in my first Tai Chi Competition, word! I look forward to that for sure! Creatively I been working on an album, all Produced by Me, don’t want to give a Title, but the joint looking to be released around June (Don’t quote me u know shit happens but that’s the projection haha)… Also have a joint I been working on wit my guy MD Beats he produced my second EP, him and I have been putting together, the EP is titled ‘Prophetable Walks’ and of course Kyo Itachi and I will be bombing shit again with an Album called ‘No Prison Houses’, we are already like 7 joints in, so word, I’m loaded for the next cipher… Gonna be hitting the road and pollinating the Atlas, we got that dope!
