Chicago based Zaena & Jason Maek shine a light on mental health issues in their new visual BEING ME
While other artists try to hide their flaws, Zaena & Jason Maek put them on full display for the world to see in their new music video ‘Being Me’. Directed by Jason Maek, the footage for ‘Being Me’ was never meant to be released.
The unorthodox collection of raw clips was taken inside of Zaena and Jason Maek’s recording studio after the 2019 Grammys. It depicts an intoxicated Zaena articulating feelings of deep depression, anxiety, and suicide.
“We just let the camera roll”, says Jason Maek. “We hope this video reaches people that suffer from a lot of the same things we do and they understand there is beauty in the ugliest moments”.
Zaena added, “Being a musician is an amazing career, however, it has its low moments that allows dark thoughts and ideas to sink in. We hope to want to use our voices to help those that feel helpless”.
Zaena x Jason Maek strongly encourage their fans to seek professional help if they are feeling the effects of mental illness.
