Urban Vault Interviews – 8ighty8

Urban Vault caught up with Staten Island, New York-based Hip Hop Duo 8ighty8 aka S.I.T.H & iNTeLL, to ask them some questions about their new track POWAh and more…

Do you have the Powah? Is the question being asked by two of Staten Island’s top tier lyricists, together S.I.T.H & iNTeLL have combined forces as 8ighty8 (A High Power Consciousness) and dropped some immaculate visuals to accompany the previously unreleased track ‘POWAh’.

Conceived in their minds & recorded during harsher times in the artist’ lives this Wavy Bagels produced banger is a funky record that was almost lost but miraculously resurfaced at just the right time. With Alex Antiqua in the Director Chair, working with Anthony Fioto & Dennis Andreas, this visual project turned out to be a diamond in the rough. Very aesthetically pleasing without borrowing from what we’ve already seen.

A fresh new vibe highlighted by dope scenery & rhythmic human body movement for your third eye. how can you not be curious?

What are your names?

i: iNTeLL

S: S.I.T.H (Sick In The Head)

Where are you from?

i+S: Staten Island, New York

How long have you been making music?

i: Over a decade

S: About 13 years.

Tell us more about the video-single ‘POWAh’ you recently dropped?

i: This is a song we recorded in 2015 and decided it was ripe enough to drop on the people. After performing it at a few shows and seeing the reception we decided the perfect way to release it, is with some very dope visuals.

S: I contacted my boy Alex (the director) and we all built from there.

How did the collab come about? What prompted you guys to work together?

i: We’ve known each other for a while, first as Hip Hop peers but now I consider SITH one of my closest friends. And hands down one of the dopest emcees I’ve ever known and worked with.

S: I sent the beat to iNTeLL sometime after Wavy Bagels sent it to me. I couldn’t write to it at first. Then after iNTeLL sent me a rough recording of his verse, that almost immediately inspired my verse. The ‘Tony Macaroni’ Bridge was just some randomness I came up with while on the way to work one day. Sounded dope to me and it stuck with others who heard it. INTeLL and I have known each other for years so most of the time we just end up building on life or cracking jokes rather than writing when we do link up. The collab just came randomly, it wasn’t planned.

What type of sounds and content will listeners experience by pressing play?

i: I feel like it’s an audio/visual adventure, with some abstract effects drawing inspiration from ATCQ.

S: Some water for your ears. Bars and personalities perfectly interwoven into one another. We take our art very seriously, but not ourselves. I think this song demonstrates that perfectly.

Who else have you collaborated with so far in your career?

i: Big Tray Deee, Masta Killah, Method Man, Fred The Godson, Snowgoons, Mickey Factz, Chris Rivers, Nitty Scott, Inspectah Deck, Token, Young Dirty Bastard, and Snoop Dogg.

S: Too many to count. Local and otherwise. Most recently I worked with a band called Supa Dupa from France, who I met through an emcee from Australia named Nelson Dialect who’ve I collaborated with before as well.

What inspires you when you make your music?

i: Currently, either a dope ass beat or a powerful emotion.

S: Usually other artists in my immediate space inspire me. If I’m by myself, thoughts come randomly and sporadically. Life is always the illest inspiration of all. We all gotta go out and live unfortunately haha.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

i: Consistency and determination.

S: I just started rapping….then I kept rapping….and now I’m here.

What is your opinion on music streaming and social media?

i: Social media is like sugar for the eyes, however, I use Instagram like it’s my 3rd hand and streaming is cool because of convenience but bad for so many reasons, especially for the up & coming artists trying to get paid.

S: It’s a double edged sword really. They both help to move things at a much quicker and easier pace, but they make us too dependent on instant gratification. As a recording artist, you kind of need both so it’s about finding the balance.

Which do you prefer, Facebook or Twitter or Instagram?

i: INSTAGRAM.

S: Facebook.

What’s your favorite track at the moment?

i: Koolaid by Diana Gourdon

S: Been listening to ScHoolboy Q’s “CrasH Talk” album so probably something from there.

What do you do when you are not making music?

i: Making Movies.

S: I’m always making music, even when I’m not. Besides that, porn is pretty cool.

What have you got planned for 2019?

i: A full length 20 track album dropping in the summer called 1.21Gigawatts based on the popular film series Back To The Future.

S: More music from 8ighty8. New music from Rare Article which is myself, Nelson Dialect and Wavy Bagels. Plus new music from BrainWavy which is just Wavy Bagels and myself.

In a few words sum up your thoughts about Urban Vault and what we’re trying to do?

i: I Appreciate ya’ll keeping the culture alive and showing support where it matters.

S: I think what Urban Vault is doing is very dope. You guys are helping to pump the blood throughout our culture. Please continue so we can do the same.

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music….

i+S: Thank you for extending the opportunity. Much appreciated. Peace.
