Having dropped music sporadically over the last two years, Fazer makes good on his promise of a wave of new music as he delivers single ‘Give It Away’.
Whilst knowing how to make a hit is pretty second nature to Fazer, having been largely responsible for producing and rapping across platinum-selling albums that sung to the tune of 3.2 million sales, it’s clear from his latest joint that Fazer has matured in sound and style on both accounts.
Co-produced with Drake & PNB Rock producer Dirty Saj (KMT – Drake & Giggs, Chef Pasquale – Drake & PNB Rock), the trap heavy beat with layered kick-drums and ricocheting snares are married with melodic rap that flirts with a darker edge of R&B as Fazer lays it down on this solo outing, and it fits him well. Inspired by the Red Hot Chili Peppers anthem that goes by the same name, ‘Give It Away’ feels like Fazer has found his own sound and one that he is at home with.
Even in comparison to his most recent releases, including ‘Bad In Real Life’ and ‘I Woke Up’, which have gained nearly 1 million views online, ‘Give It Away’ moves in a new direction and steps away from the softer, orchestral feels that we’ve been used to hearing in the past and chops it up with a more ominous, real and gritty ambiance that shows him in a genuine and stripped backlight.
Documenting the lows and highs he has faced within his lengthy career and the scrutiny that he’s undergone by people looking on to his life, ‘Give It Away’ is honest and endearing and Fazer’s growth is evident.
