Los Angeles based recording artist recently teamed up with Designer Doubt, Truth & Ironik on the track/visual REWIND, taken off Ray J’s recent PROGRESSION EP
Following the huge single ‘Right On Time’ featuring Flo Rida, sister Brandy and British producer act Designer Doubt, R&B sensation Ray J is back with a brand new summer single ‘Rewind’. The new joint comes alongside a record deal and forthcoming album, all of which follow his ‘Best Album’ Grammy for Drake’s sampling of ‘One Wish’ on the track ‘Redemption’ last year. Not that Ray J has ever been away, not with the level of media attention he has always attracted.
Penning a new record and album deal with hot new label on the block RU Listening, the forthcoming album ‘Raydemption’ already features the likes of Chris Brown, The Game and Snoop Dogg with more records in the works. However, preceding its release is the ‘Progression’ EP, which includes lead record ‘Rewind’ featuring label mates, UK pioneering artist Ironik, British Producer act Designer Doubt, and Ray J’s artist and best friend Truth for a bang-up-to-date feel-good track.
And you know that when Ray J has his name attached to anything, press attention is never far behind, especially taking into account a past peppered with global headline news. Like a certain controversial, ahem, intimate video featuring one Kim Kardashian (whatever happened to her when the shockwaves from that particular episode died down?), the connection that seems to hold Kanye West’s attention with various mentions of Ray J on his records.
Then there was the close friendship with Whitney Houston and the various TV programs: not only his own massive reality show Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood, which he and partner Princess star in, but the UK’s Celebrity Big Brother, which he had to leave early because of illness.
And, of course, the superstar family members like cousin Snoop Dogg and sister Brandy (you remember him starring alongside Brandy in her globally syndicated TV smash, Moesha, right?) and close friends like Chris Jenner, who make sure he’s never that far from a TMZ news story.
But Ray J is in a very different place in his life right now with new baby Melody and a whole new outlook on life. It’s given his music, especially this single and EP, an upbeat, glad-to-be-alive vibe that’s bound to go down well with fans.
As for the upcoming album, it’s coming in visual album format, not dissimilar to Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’, basically, a 45-minute mini-movie that’s already exciting Grammy’s buzz.
With a character as charismatic and in-demand as Ray J, it’s sometimes all too easy to overlook the music. Except when the music is this good, that is.
