Newham, London-based emcee D Double E shares his brand new visual for the track FLATMATE, taken off his acclaimed debut album JACKUUM! via Bluku Music
Following a roadblock, sell-out JACKUUM! headline show earlier this year at XOYO and taking that energy everywhere from London to NY to Berlin since D Double E shows no signs of slowing down as he returns this July with a brand-new video for album cut ‘Flatmate’. Filmed in East London where Double is from, this highly anticipated video for the JACKUUM! fan favorite centers on Double spitting his inimitable, straight-talking bars over an eerie Swifta Beater production. Akin to the lyrics, this is a no-nonsense, story-telling grime video with a special exclusive edit at the end.
Speaking on the video, the director Saloum N’jie says: “Working with the legend D Double is always something I look forward to. ‘Flatmate’ is a melodic, haunting dance filler that sounds cinematic, so we took that approach to the video. Free runners leaping over buildings, boats, and cars to get to you. I used a lot of in and out of focus to make D look intimidating and the viewers uncomfortable, resulting in the climactic end of the wrongdoer getting what he deserves.”
2018 saw the release of D Double E’s JACKUUM! – the first opus from one of grime’s most revered emcees and sonic expression of his artistic journey so far. Since its release, the record has and continues to receive nothing but praise from mainstream media to influential tastemakers alike including RA, The Guardian, NME, Mixmag, BBC, London In Stereo, Crack Magazine, Trench Magazine, Noisey, The Fader, HYPEBEAST, i-D, and Highsnobiety as well as consistent love from the biggest DJs on the airwaves DJ Target, Charlie Sloth, Julie Adenuga and Rude Kid.
Throughout his career D Double E has become one of grime’s most respected figures. Starting off in jungle and UK garage, he began life in grime as a member of the N.A.S.T.Y. Crew alongside his contemporaries including Ghetts, Kano, and Jammer before founding the Newham Generals with Footsie. Earlier solo releases including ‘Street Fighter Riddim’, ‘Like This’ and ‘Bluku, Bluku’ have led the legendary artist to receive consistent praise from the likes of The Guardian, FACT, CRACK, Mixmag, The FADER, i-D, Complex, and many more.
Having released on labels including Dirtee Stank and DICE and collaborated with artists both new and old including Wiley, Dizzee Rascal, Gorgon City, JD Reid, Breakage, Skepta, The Bug, Rustie and Swindle, D Double E has been there from the start. JACKUUM! was a landmark release for the scene, and 2019 promises even more new music from this legendary artist.
