Nairobi, Kenya based recording artist Icy Lando is back with his new track ALL ABOUT YOU, featuring long-term collaborator, Australian vocalist Sire
Icy Lando’s story is one of hard work, belief in yourself and a creative flare driving him to achieve his goals. The past year has seen a meteoric rise in the artists solo career, with support coming from Spotify on their influential Shisha Lounge and Fire Emoji playlists. He’s also picked up support from key tastemaker publications and collaborated with artists around the world, including N-Geezy and Billboard Hot 100 producer Mike Gonsolin.
The rapper, singer and producer (real name Victor Buyuka) grew up in one of the most dangerous areas of Nairobi, Kenya. His upbringing meant that the future artist grew up appreciating what most would take for granted. He later discovered a passion for music through his sister, who performed in an R&B group. He later joined a school choir, competing in music festivals regularly. Soon, he found himself lead vocalist in the Kenyan Boys Choir, where his love of music would soon take him around the world.
The group became the countries most successful ever musical group and gained international attention on being invited to perform at the inauguration of US President Barack Obama, in 2009. Soon after, the group was offered a recording deal with Universal Music Group in the UK, and released ‘Spirit of Africa’ with the label giants, reaching No.21 in the UK Album Charts. During his time with the choir, Icy performed and recorded with the likes of Nelly Furtado, Demi Lovato, and Selena Gomez.
“Was the best time in my teen years, where I got to meet and work with world-renowned artists as well as a major label like UMG. Our success with the choir showed me that you can achieve your dreams and where you come from really does not matter”.
The new single ‘All About You’, continues the rebirth of the prolific artist. Re-affirming his incredible, long-term collaboration with Sire, the new single incorporates all we’ve come to expect from both artists. It’s a summer-ready, future R’n’B smash that incorporates lush guitar licks and hook-driven vocals.
On the new track, Icy states: “I want to take Kenyan Hip Hop Music to the next level globally and working with artists from all over the world is what will take Kenyan Music to the world. Sire and Mike Gonsolin are amazing producers that are helping me realize my goal”.
