Brooklyn, New York-based R&B artist Alex Mali drops her latest single START IT UP, taken off the forthcoming debut EP, SWEET AND SOUR

Brooklyn-born singer-songwriter Alex Mali is a multi-talented independent artist who puts a breathtaking spin on modern RnB. Raised with a very rich heritage stemming from a Jamaican mother and a Trinidadian father, her ballads are influenced by an electric assortment of genres with an undeniable demonstration of strength in melodic and lyrical ability. Equally known for her neon green hair and a reputation for unique style, Alex Mali will not be overlooked.

In 2017, Alex Mali released ‘Hoity Toity‘ with Grammy Award Winning artist MeLo- X. Demonstrating her versatility and love of her Caribbean roots, the reggae-tinged single captured the essence of Alex’s heritage whilst maintaining an American pop-culture slant. The music video premiered on The Fader and landed on Ebro’s Beats 1 radio show as well H&M and Topshop playlists, Spotify’s New Music Friday, Alternative R&B, Fresh Finds and more.
Following on from ‘Hoity Toity’, Alex cemented her place as one of this generation’s female R&B artists to watch when she guest appeared on Thutmose’s ‘Karma‘. Her follow up releases would go on to amass millions of collective streams on Spotify and earn her consistent and strong support from tastemakers like Ebro and Nedeska on Beats1.

In 2018, Alex appeared at the VFiles #NYFW SS19 Runway Show for an unforgettable vocal performance alongside Lil Kim at the Barclays Center. She has landed several syncs, including a placement in the star-studded Netflix film ‘Afterparty’ along with a place on Sprite’s #GetVocal Worldwide Commercial which premiered during the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards.

Fast forward to July 18th, 2019 and Alex Mali is ready to release her new single Start It Up coupled with a preorder of her anticipated debut EP, ‘Sweet & Sour’ (in stores July 26th). Start It Up is a vibrant and sexy warning to not waste her time if you are not ready to give her the love she deserves.
