London’s General Levy, pioneer of Dub, Bass, and Jungle joins up with original collaborator M-Beat to head up a colossal night at Electrix Brixton
Few people have contributed as much to the urban music scene in the UK as General Levy. Levy built up a consistent musical culture: from ska to Rock Steady, Calypso to Soul Music, Hip Hop to Reggae Music. Even at the age of just 14, Levy was forming sound system crews and was already putting on parties around the Capital.
Since then, he has become one of the most in-demand emcees of his generation putting out singles like ‘Tell Me Why’ and ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ as well as working on independent reggae labels like Fashion Records. His debut album ‘Double Trouble’ (1992) and work on labels like Justice Records has led to global recognition. In the years since, Levy has collaborated with the likes of Sly & Robbie, Shaggy, Sting International and Artful Dodger amongst many more, and remains a true stalwart of the UK urban music scene who has much to offer and plenty of unique ideas up his sleeve. He’s gone on to be a major influence of the London Grime scene, and his BBC Radio 1 recordings alongside the likes of Dizzee Rascal, JME & BBK has racked up well over 10 million views online.
This December, General Levy comes to Electric Brixton for a fiery floor-filling celebration of a pioneer of London’s world-shattering underground scene.
Joining General Levy and M- Beat is Drum N Bass pioneer Grooverider who’ll be performing a one of Jungle set for the night. Filling out this colossal bill is Serial Killaz, Ray Keith, Ragga Twins Crew, James Rail, and a very very special guest TBA!
