Urban Vault Interviews – Mike Eze

Urban Vault caught up with Boston based emcee Mike Eze to ask him some questions about his music & more…

Mike Eze presents ‘Goals’, the Larry Beats-produced single featuring Peralt, taken off his forthcoming album ‘Bipolar Weather’.

Mike says his new single is about, “My dreams and my goal to achieve it at any cost. People try to knock me and people try to stop me but no one can keep me from my goals”.

What’s the Boston scene like?

The Boston scene is pretty dope. We are very New York inspired since we’re sibling states but we still manage to put our own swing on things. There are a lot of talented artists out here but unfortunately, it’s very hard to break through, and the few that do haven’t managed to put the city on. I aim to change that. There are rappers like Benzino and singers like Bobby Brown but aside from them, my city hasn’t really had the exposure that we deserve. My goal is to bring Boston back to the spotlight and give us the recognition and acknowledgment that we deserve. Boston’s Up Next and I aim to make that very apparent to everyone that knows me! Watch out! We taking the scene over!

What made you decide to become an artist?

Music is in my blood. From a young age, all I ever wanted to do was make music even when I didn’t know it yet haha. I would sing and make my own remixes to songs, it was all nonsense since I was like 3 or 4 but still. I didn’t decide that music was where I wanted to go until I was 12 years old and started writing music for real. Growing up I used to want to make video games so one of the first songs I’ve ever made was about wanting to make video games. I recorded it on Travis McCoy’s Billionaire instrumental. I don’t know where that song is now but I performed it in middle school and everything. Everyone loved it haha. Honestly, I just decided one day that I wanted to make music full time. I don’t fully remember why but I’m a prodigy with a pen so it’s working out all right for me!

What’s the first rap song you ever heard? Describe the moment.

I couldn’t tell you. I come from a very hip hop oriented household so I’ve heard many rap songs haha. But what I will tell you is that I grew up off Eminem and 50 Cent and when I was a kid I used to always sing the hook to “Cleaning out my closet” so my mother not knowing the meaning of the song haha. My father loved 50 Cent so I grew up on 50 as well. One of the songs I sang all the time was What’s up Gangsta by him. I used to idolize him like crazy when I was 3-4 I wanted to be gangsta just like him haha. I also grew up on Dipset, Lil Wayne, I went to the south a lot as a young kid so I listened to Hurricane Chris, Lil Jon, Ludacris. Dirty South music.

How did ‘Goals’ come together?

Honestly, I don’t put too much effort into the creative process of my songs. What I mean by that is there’s no string of events that lead me to create a song specifically. My music is based on how I’m feeling at the time and is based upon aspects of my life. To be honest, ‘Goals’ is a song about my struggle as a person and as an artist achieving my goals. I like to tell my story and make music that I feel like people can emphasize with. Or even just music for myself. I went through a lot of trauma and pain in my short life and I typically don’t have anyone to talk to that can relate or understand my feelings so I pour my heart out into my music to keep me level headed and to have other people who have felt similar pain know that they are not alone. Music is very therapeutic for me so I make music to deal with certain aspects of life and express myself in a way that words can’t.

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music…
