Urban Vault Interviews – Aristoteles

Urban Vault caught up with Netherlands based recording artist Aristoteles who recently dropped his new track/visual to track HOOD LOVE

Aristoteles has toured with Los Angeles rapper Hopsin and opened for Hip Hop legends such as KRS-One and Freddy Gibbs. The rapper is scheduled to release at least a single every month before the EP drops, but for now, we have ‘Hood Love’ produced by dutch beat-smith Tiamo. The EP is due to come out in September 2020.

What is your name?

Aristoteles Mendes

Where are you from?
I was born in Angola, Lunada. Lived in South Africa, Johannesburg for 5 years and then moved to The Netherlands where I’ve been for 16 years.

What‘s the Hip Hop scene like in the Netherlands?

The Dutch Hip Hop scene is very Afro Poppy, I’m sure the women love it and rappers are finally making some serious cash out here which wasn’t the case 5 years ago. And therefore it leaves not much room for guys like me English speaking artist who cares about lyricism.

How long have you been making music?

I would say, I’ve been taking it seriously for 7 years now.

Tell us more about your upcoming EP ‘Never Had’?

‘Never Had’ is me bending the negative into a positive. A friend once asked but why focus on the things you Never Had? And I said But how about doing it for the things that you never had and use it as a
motivational tool. It just sounded dope to me and it became life motto and ‘Never Had’ is just me conveying my thought process in that manner.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?

Mostly with Artists that I know or either that I’m cool with. for me, it’s simple as I see what you do and I  like it. Then will most likely approach the artist and ask if she or he would like to link up.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Pharrell, Drake, Rick Ross, and Freddy Gibbs.

What inspires you when you make your music?

Everyone and everything my songs are mostly autobiographical stories, it’s always a beginning and end of a thought or an emotion.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

Like everyone else in this sport I needed to get stuff out there and meet people that help me do so. And here I am to stay.

What do you think of the music industry in 2020?

I think it’s the perfect time to see who really is what? I just feel like if you’re really creative and authentic you wouldn’t have to worry about anything that’s happening in 2020. Not being able to perform shouldn’t mean the end of anyone’s career.

What do you do when your not making music?

I council kids troubled kids at a local institution and use music a tool to do so

Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram?

Instagram all the way…

In a few words sum up your thoughts about Urban Vault and what we’re trying to do?

The shit! keep breaking people’s heads with these type of questions.

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music…
