Urban Vault Interviews – Omen44

Urban Vault caught up with New Jersey-based recording artist Omen44 to ask him some questions about his new single featuring Skyzoo & more…

Omen44 originally from Kobe/Japan, evolved into a seasoned and respected Hip Hop artist since claiming New York as home and placing his stake in the music scene. The quick buzz and notoriety from his music resulted in shared global stages and collaborations with the likes of such heavyweights as Sadat X, Craig G, Large Professor, and more. 44 offers fans a lengthy catalog of albums, mixtapes, and EP’s all of which incorporate a mixture of sounds and beats from Jazz to Funk over his lyrical imagery.

What is your name?

Omen44

Where are you from?

New Jerusalem (New Jersey) before that, lived in Japan for 8 years.

What‘s the Hip Hop scene like in Japan?

It used to be about New York Hip Hop like the states, but now you see kids growing up with Trap, J-Rap, boom-bap so you see lots of varieties nowadays but in my opinion, you don’t see that many individual artists as you see in the U.S., the lyrics all sound the same.

How long have you been making music?

I don’t exactly remember, like 25 years maybe.

Tell us more about your recently released single with Skyzoo.

‘I Can See The Sun’ is the 1st single off my forthcoming album ‘Hentai’, I feel like Skyzoo is the dopest lyricist out right now, that is totally unappreciated, and it was him that actually picked this beat.

Is there an album in the making?

Yes, ‘Hentai’ (Album) coming this fall Nov or Dec.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?

Sizzla, statik selektah, Marley Marl, Ruste Juxx, A.G.(D.I.T.C.), Large Professor, Smif-N-Wessun, Sadat X, Buddha Brand, etc…

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

UK artists, I want to do Jungle Music, Drum & Bass or collab with somebody from the bristol movement back in the day.

What inspires you when you make your music?

I think about the real people that are serving the culture.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

I do quite a lot of things, not just rap.

What do you think of the music industry in 2020?

Pop music is garbage, and 85% out there is wack but there’s always the 10%ers and the 5.

What do you do when you’re not making music?

Promote, bringing artists to Japan, read books, collect words.

Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram?

Instagram!

In a few words sum up your thoughts about The Vault UK and what we’re trying to do?

The UK had its own scene since the early days and even with Jungle and Drum & Bass, they had their own thing, Americans love stuff from the UK and I think it’s the level of sophistication they have, thnx for supporting the underground, and thank you for supporting the real culture. You folks are Great!

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music…

Salute!
