North London based Drill emcee Headie One drops the visual to his latest track AIN’T IT DIFFERENT, featuring fellow London based emcees AJ Tracey & Stormzy
The UK’s three reigning Rap Kings Headie One, AJ Tracey and Stormzy have come together for their new collaborative single ‘Ain’t It Different’. The official first single from Headie’s forthcoming new album ‘Edna’ set for release later this year.
Produced by FRED (Stormzy, AJ Tracey, Burna Boy, Stefflon Don) and Toddla T (Young T & Bugsey, Aitch, Stormzy, Bugzy Malone), the epic track samples two distinctive but equally iconic tracks; M-Dubs ‘Bump and Grind’ and Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ ‘Pretty Little Ditty’ (which was also notably sampled by Crazy Town on the #1 hit ‘Butterfly’).
An unforgettable moment for the UK scene, ‘Ain’t It Different’ sees Headie, AJ, and Stormzy impressively trade commanding and assertive bars, expertly demonstrating why this trio of superstars are among the elite of UK Rap. While this is a first-time collaboration for Headie and AJ, Headie and Stormzy have already seen success together with ‘Audacity’ which blazed the UK Top 10 last year. The accompanying video was directed by Taz Tron Delix (Novelist, Kojey Radical, and Oscar Worldpeace). The cinematic visual features Headie, AJ, and Stormzy as members of an elite secret society with cameos from RV and OFB. Amidst scenes of cars and motorbikes driving full throttle at maximum speed are futuristic elements with animated greenery and butterflies. Throughout the video is a towering statue of Headie overlooking a London skyline like the Drill king he is.
‘Ain’t It Different’ comes after the gargantuan success of ‘Only You Freestyle’ featuring Canadian Hip Hop icon, Drake. His starring guest-turn on the track broke Headie on an international scale, solidifying his position as the ‘King Of Drill’. The blistering track has become Headie’s biggest hit to date, peaking at No.5 on the UK Singles Chart and amassing 13 million views on YouTube to date.
Upon its release, the song topped Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube’s Trending Chart, making Headie the first Drill artist to ever go No.1 on all three platforms simultaneously. ‘Only You Freestyle’ also received ample acclaim from publications across the globe such as Complex, Pitchfork, Billboard, The Fader, ET Canada, Pigeons and Planes, CLASH, Metro and more.
Boasting over 1 billion global streams, AJ Tracey continues to push the boundaries of UK Rap with his dextrous and witty wordplay. His latest single ‘West Ten’ with Mabel has spent over 5 weeks in the UK Top 10. The Double-Platinum smash ‘Ladbroke Grove’ was the top-selling independent single of 2019, scoring a BRIT Award nomination and an NME Award win for ‘Best British Song’. Last year AJ released his debut self-titled album, peaking at #3 in the UK Official Charts and receiving a Gold certification. At just 26-years-old, AJ has featured in Forbes 30 under 30 and is the recent recipient of the AIM Innovator Award. Critically acclaimed by his peers, AJ has appeared on tracks alongside Missy Elliott, A$AP Rocky, Rick Ross, Denzel Curry, and more.
Stormzy is one of the UK’s most inspiring and influential cultural figures. Known for evolving the underground musical landscape, as well as being a true spokesman of black empowerment and social activism. His latest album ‘Heavy Is The Head’ became his second consecutive No.1 album in the UK Official Charts and has since been certified Gold.
‘Vossi Bop’ broke the record for the biggest ever first-week streams for a British rapper with streams accumulating to over 12.7 million. The single saw a combined sales total of 94,495 and subsequently earned Stormzy his first-ever UK #1 single, holding the top position for two consecutive weeks. ‘Own It’ featuring musical heavyweights Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy ended up also topping the Official UK Charts.
Building momentum with impassioned support from his devoted fan base, Stormzy is now the proud possessor of over 30 awards including; 2 x BRIT Awards, 1 x Ivor Novello Award, 6 x MOBO Awards, 1 x Q Award, 1 x MTV EMA, 1 x BBC Music Award, 1 x Teen Choice Award, 3 x AIM Awards, 2 x BET Awards, 2 x British GQ Awards, 2 x Global Awards and many more. The Croydon-born emcee has also broken records in the live sphere and last year became the first British rapper to ever headline Glastonbury Festival, one of the world’s biggest music festivals.
In April, Headie released ‘GANG’, an experimental collaborative mixtape with producer Fred again…The project featured an eclectic list of artists including FKA twigs, Jamie xx, Sampha, Octavian and Slowthai. Displaying a diverse set of musical sensibilities and sounds, ‘GANG’ was immediately critically acclaimed, receiving praise from a host of tastemaker publications like CRACK, NME, Pitchfork, Dazed, Loud & Quiet and more.
To date, his music has since amassed over 60 million streams while notching up multiple top 20 placements on the UK Charts with ‘Music x Road’ reaching the Top 5 last year. Last year he played Glastonbury and sold out Brixton Academy, his biggest headline show to date, while his huge crossover track ‘Both’ became his biggest airplay hit.
