Urban Vault caught up with New Jersey-based emcee K-Prez to ask him some questions about his forthcoming EP with the Snowgoons & more…

K-Prez is the latest talent on the Snowgoons/Goon MuSick roster. The upcoming artist teamed up with the Goons to create a banging forthcoming EP. Even Brooklyn producer Marco Polo submitted an instrumental for K-Prez to round off the EP’s sound.

Tell us about the Hip Hop scene in New Jersey?

Most know Jersey for Jersey Club Music, it’s a mix of everything nowadays though. There’s a lot of underground talent over here.

Goon Musick recently announced your forthcoming EP. When will it drop and can you already share some info like features, producers, etc?

Sooner than later. I linked up with Solo For Dolo, a dope emcee from Jersey. We got Xci The Saga on the project, another emcee who is the brother of underground king Viro The Virus. There’s also a legendary feature on the project, we’ll announce that soon! I got some production from Sicknature & SixKay from the Snowgoons camp. Also, the legendary Marco Polo laced me with one!

How did you actually link up with the Snowgoons?

Life is random, Back in 2018, I dropped a record called ‘Tim Duncan’. That song got me a buzz in my City then things started to pick up after the video. A supporter of mines then reposted the video on her Instagram page, I found out the Snowgoons saw the video & the rest is history.

You already had a feature on the last Snowgoons album. What are your experiences so far working with them?

Yeah, my track ‘Exquisite’ made the cut for their last album. I was hype & grateful, people don’t know I used to really freestyle to Snowgoons beats years ago before I took rap seriously. They always have inspired me in some way, so to work with them now is a blessing… they’re family!

What made you join the Goon Musick roster and what do you expect from the EP release on this label?

Goon Musick is just the right fit for me. When I & DJ Illegal linked up a few years back, he told me to always stay consistent, never get lazy with this !. That always stuck with me especially hearing it come from him… I’ve been a machine ever since. This EP is gonna do great things for me.

One track from the project was produced by Marco Polo. Tell us about that?

Yeah, I’m excited for people to hear that one! The track is called ‘Tough Times’ It’s one of those tracks that many will relate to. I took a different approach with the concept for the track.. I’ll explain it further when it drops.

As a pretty young emcee, you represent the traditional boom-bap sound while your generation usually is into Trap and autotune. How come that?

Man, I always loved the boom-bap sound. It’s not everyone’s cup of liquor, & that’s fine but to me it’s everything. I got homies who dib & dabble with Trap too, but boom-bap just hits different. I live for this sh*t.

What inspires you when you make your music?

I catch inspiration from everything. I could walk outside and get inspired instantly by just standing on the block, there’s no limitation.

What do you do when your not making music?

When I’m not locked in, I play my Xbox from time to time. I read books to gain more knowledge and expand my vocabulary…it keeps my pen sharp! & I’m all about good eats, so I’m always looking for new restaurants to try. Oh, & I like to get on my shawty’s nerves in my free time too lol…
