Breakthrough Ghanaian Drill & Hip Hop artist Yaw Tog recently released his highly anticipated debut seven-track EP, TIME
Following on from the ingenious remix of ‘Sore’ featuring Stormzy and Kwesi Arthur, the 17-year-old now finds himself at the center of the West African Drill and Hip Hop movement. Born Thorsten Owusu Gyimah, Yaw Tog became a young prodigy overnight with the original video for ‘Sore’ being the first within the genre to reach over one million views organically, making waves across the world. Featuring members of the Asaaka boys collective (O’Kenneth, City Boy, Reggie, Jay Bhad), ‘Sore’ fittingly translates to ‘Rise’.
On his debut project ‘TIME‘, Yaw Tog worked with a tight group of producers including Doosis, Khendibeatz, Chris Rich, Juiczx, and DG Production. Collectively they built a chemistry that complimented Yaw Tog’s vision of portraying his life, reflecting on themes of brotherhood, growth, and struggle whilst capturing the true essence of Kumerica. Spanning just under 20 minutes, each track is as hard-hitting as the next with the rising star possessing an incomparable rawness that has evidently aided in his rapid rise within the global Rap scene.
Leading the way for his generation, Yaw Tog still balances his studies with music and counts the hours down until he can put all his energy into music.
