Hastings, East Sussex based emcee Lil’ Nate drops his new HOPES AND DREAMS EP, accompanied by the visual to the track 200MG, produced by Pond.
Brixton-born, Irish raised conscious Hip Hop artist Lil’ Nate releases his new EP ‘Hopes And Dreams’, and reveals the video to his lead single ‘200 mg’, a track that is fully influenced by the golden age of Rap Music.
His new project is an oral illustration of the ups and downs and street life living on the poverty line, centered around his days as a teenager and early adulthood. Verse by verse, they lead up to where he is at now in life, being vocal about the personal endeavours he was facing to keep a strong mindset. His lyrics are very descriptive, showing vision, thought, and observation of the world from different angles.
The lead single ‘200mg’ epitomises this sentiment. Through an elevating soul sample and ambitious lyrics. It is a boom-bap, Golden Era of Hip Hop-inspired track delivering sincere lyrics portraying a story that touches on the struggles he faced growing up in Ireland with a focus on his drive to succeed, not only in the music industry but also as a father.
When asked about the project, Lil’ Nate had this to say,
“There’s always gonna be people happy to see you fall rather than rise! But no matter how difficult or deep life can be, you just gotta keep moving forward making sure you’re heading in the right direction with good intentions”.
There is a blend of musical styles that differentiates throughout with elements of G-Funk, boom-bap, Afrobeat, and even hints of auto-tune on his vocals in a particular track bringing an overall old school and exciting feeling.
Nate knows how he wants to be portrayed in each track with genuine lyricism, head-bopping flow along with a smooth delivery that you could easily describe as an addictive listen.
