Urban Vault caught up with Brooklyn, New York-based multi-genre artist Da Twin Prince to ask him some questions about his latest release BODY ON, & more…
‘Body On’ is the brand new R&B single from Da Twin Prince. This new single explores intimacy with someone you are no longer involved with, and asks the question, Is it still love if you’re not in love? He has always found R&B to be his most creative genre lyrically, and that is evident on this track. Not originally intending to sing on this track, his rough vocals fit the vibe he wanted to create and made the cut. Wanting everything about this track to convey the sensuality of sex, Da Twin Prince worked hard to maintain a consistent aesthetic across the release, creating this cohesive and professional new single.
‘Body On‘ is the 6th studio single to come from Da Twin Prince who has already enjoyed ten years in the music industry. Never one to sacrifice the quality of his music, nothing is released until it is perfect. With the release of ‘Stereo Love’, Da Twin Prince was invited twice to perform on Bronx net morning TV show Open. This led to bookings at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Texas and One Music Fest, as well as collaborations with other artists and sponsors. With his latest release, Da Twin Prince is expecting to climb higher than ever before!
What is your name?
Da Twin Prince.
Where are you from?
Brooklyn, New York.
How old are you?
Timeless lol, 33.
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been making music since my first cry out of the womb I feel, but recording music started in about 2005. Fast forward to my first project around 2012 that’s when I started taking music a lot more seriously, doing shows, and working with other artists.
How many songs/albums have you released to date?
My goodness lol to keep count would be a lot but to my knowledge 1 mixtape (Studio Sex On The Weekend) 1 E.p (Imagination Fame) about 10 features, and released 7 singles, so in total about 20 tracks are accessible.
Can you tell us about your new track, the background, and the inspirations behind it?
My new single ‘Body On’ has a background of the type of music I’ve always loved to write. I tend to write a lot of sensual and sexual music, but I like adding a poetic feel to it. I honestly was just playing instrumentals, lit a candle, came across it, and started writing. The words just flowed. One of my bigger projects this could be a continuation to would be my Studio Sex On the Weekend Tape.
How have you ended up in the music industry?
I have ended up more in the industry by networking. Going to events, meeting people at shows, and just a ton of networking. Talent is one of the things but not a lot of people are interested in talent these days. Talent is something we all have but what else is there for you? Came across good opportunities at times from knowing the right people. Performing at the right venues and all that good stuff.
What do you think of the music industry in 2022?
I think the music industry in 2022 is more about popularity and who has a bigger fanbase and better numbers. It’s a little frustrating at times seeing minimal talent but all the sponsorships and major opportunities are coming to them because people know of them from something. Talent plays little to no role these days in the music industry. You don’t have to write, sing, or rap, you could have someone set all that in place for you. I still have hope though.
What have you got planned for the rest of 2022?
The rest of 2022 is going to be full of collaborations and new ventures. One of them I can definitely let you in on. I will be starting a podcast series guest-starring other creative artists touching on real topics and dropping gems for the independent artist and creative. I’ve also been considering a mini-series where I utilize the soft tones in my voice to read selected poems or song lyrics. I am working on an EP too, still debating on the release or breaking them up into singles.
What inspires you when you make your music?
I love to write and I love creativity so what inspires me the most is my love for it.
Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?
My music collaborations have been mainly with underground artists Macclaim, Jo.El, Pink Noise, Nemchel. A lot of my other collaborations were mainly with brands and sponsors such as Monster, Rums of Puerto Rico, and Trendy Straps.
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
IN the future I would love to collaborate with Chris Brown, Drake, Sabrina Claudio, and Tims, I mean so many for me to think of now.
What’s your favourite track at the moment?
My latest single is ‘Body On’ at the moment, of course, lol, I really love that song.
What do you do when you’re not making music?
It always depends, sometimes I just write if I’m traveling somewhere, or just relaxing by the water, or a beat comes on that grabs my attention. For this latest single though I honestly just lit a candle and vibed out.
Which do you prefer, Facebook or Twitter, or Instagram?
Instagram is my preference out of the three.
In a few words sum up your thoughts about Urban Vault and what we’re trying to do?
I like that urban vault is geared towards indie artists, there are not too many platforms that are out for us!
Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music…
