Urban Vault caught up with South Africa-based Trap artist PPP Rapper to ask him some questions about his album THE DREAM STARTED & more…
PPP Rapper only started releasing his music to the world a few years ago back in 2017 but his love & passion for music has been brewing for years. Following a dissatisfied response to his first single, PPP Rapper came back stronger than ever with his 2019 single ‘Young N*****’ and what followed was a broad discography of Hip Hop hits, all of which boasted a different aspect to PPP Rapper’s Rap game. Following his own self-established motto of, ‘I just open my mouth and say whatever I call it trap,’ PPP Rapper is a promising talent ready to explode onto the Rap music scene.
What is your name and where are you from?
My name is PPP Rapper, I’m from Zimbabwe but right now I’m based in South Africa.
How old are you?
I’m 28 years old.
How long have you been making music?
I have been making music since 2017.
How many songs/albums have you released to date?
I have 19 songs and 1 album called ‘The Dream Started’.
Can you tell us about your album, the background, and the inspirations behind it?
I started recording ‘The Dream Started’ album in 2020 and released it the same year because I knew that if I didn’t do music, I would never have freedom in my life, I would have to work my whole life one thing. I dropped out of school because there was no money for me to go to school, so I left with the music. It’s in me that’s why I just open my mouth and say whatever comes to me. Being a musician is hard, it needs hard work because you can go to the studio and record but if you don’t know how to promote your music, you’re not doing anything. Just imagine I’m working at the car wash and after closing, I go to the studio every day and again busy working so that I can have money to promote my music. No one is around to help. Being self-made ain’t a joke it’s a job. Now I wanna rerecord more songs in 2023.
How have you ended up in the music industry?
I love this lifestyle, since I was a baby I knew I had to make music because every time I started rapping I felt free. It heals me cause I have seen a lot in life, the only way you can be free in this world you got to be independent.
What do you think of the music industry?
Navigating the music industry is hard but you have to tell yourself ‘I will make it’. Then never stop pushing, music needs hard work.
What inspires you when you make your music?
Music heals me, music it’s in me, that’s why I say I just open my mouth and say whatever, I call it Trap.
Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?
Young Ttyl, Dark Ave & Philly Montana
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
Shooting Gang In Paradise.
What’s your favourite track at the moment?
‘The Dream Started’.
What do you do when you’re not making music?
Working at the carwash.
