London, UK-based Afrotech pioneer DJ IC remixes Karen Nyame KG’s sizzling single TABOO, via Black Acre Records
Following, the prolific Luso-Angolan DJ and producer Vanyfox’s recent remix, London Afro-house legend DJ IC shares his reimagination of KG’s acclaimed afro-house and amapiano sizzler, ‘Taboo’. Premiered by Mixmag and now out on Black Acre Records, the Afrotech Remix, described by KG as
“Dark and Ancestral”,
sees DJ IC take ‘Taboo’ into meditative dance-floor territory. Showcasing her discerning ear and love of collaboration, for KG working with both DJ IC and Vanyfox was a no-brainer.
In her own words, KG says, “‘The ‘Taboo’ remixes are so special, I roped in two of my favourite producers – DJs, Vanyfox and DJ IC. Vanyfox represents that authentic, Angolan ‘Kuduro’ with his take on ‘Taboo’ and IC’s spin is more on the ‘Afrotech’ side of things, South Africa-influenced, it’s dark & ancestral. Both remixes are certified club weapons!”
Smash single ‘Taboo’ seamlessly blends elements of Amapiano, Afro-House, and Afrobeat, and brings KG’s deep musings on desire and self-expression straight to the dancefloor, and was supported by DJ Mag, Mixmag, CLASH, and tipped as 2022’s Best Tracks by the WIRE, DJ Mag and Complex.
On the remix, DJ IC says, “I listened and bought the original version once it was released. I absolutely love it so to be asked to do a remix I was extremely honoured and excited. KG was an absolute pleasure to work with and was professional throughout, KG is a star and I will be supporting her on her journey”.
In 2021, KG made her acclaimed and long-awaited return to the global dance music scene, with the glorious, star-making EP ‘Sensei II‘. Featuring the widely-celebrated sound of the summer, ‘Koko’, the project reached over 1 million streams, and truly reignited the flame for KG, with widespread support from Resident Advisor, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Pan African Music to name but a few. Collaborating with a host of incredible artists from across the African diaspora including Aymos, Toya Delazy, Taliwhoah and Mista Silva, KG wanted the essence of ‘back home’ to be felt throughout the whole project. While delighting long-standing fans as far back as the UK Funky days, ‘Sensei II’ also heralded a new era, and with that a new dedicated and loving fanbase. 2022 saw the polymath stun fans and new listeners alike with ‘Taboo’, building anticipation for new projects coming soon as she continues her sonic evolution and journey of self-discovery.
