Urban Vault caught up with South Africa-based up-and-coming Hip Hop artist Swizz tLc to ask him some questions about his music & more…
Inspired by New York talents like Stunna Gambino and J.I, Swizz tLc is a fresh-faced artist in the Hip Hop scene. Having started as a singer and now moving to Rap, he’s got an impressive skill set and a range of influences to apply to each upcoming release. The ‘Traumatized EP’ marks his beginnings as an artist in the South African space, denoting a rapper with an ear for catchy melodies and hard-hitting lyrics.
What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Swizz tLc (the lone child) from SA, DURBAN.
How old are you?
I’m 21 years old of age.
How long have you been making music?
Music has always been in me as a young boy, I started writing my own lyrics at the age of 14yrs, roughly close to a decade.
How many songs/albums have you released to date?
I have released 2 EPs (one deluxe version) and a single, but still more are on the way.
Can you tell us about your latest release, the background, and the inspirations behind it?
As a young upcoming artist from Durban, SA, my music is the type that you have listen to because I’m always telling you what makes me different. I always look for something someone can relate to and heal while listening to my songs.
How have you ended up in the music industry?
I’m really shy and don’t have many friends so music has been just my therapy whenever I’m in my misery. It has helped me get through some tough times.
What do you think of the music industry?
I don’t really think about it as much so that I don’t feel the pressure, there is a lot going on in the industry. I just keep it simple and be myself, let the people relate to my music as much as possible.
What have you got planned for the rest of 2023?
The ultimate goal for this year is to reach as many fans as possible, create my name as an artist and stable fanbase.
What inspires you when you make your music?
So my music is inspired by my life struggles, pain, love and more, it’s just full of emotions.
Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?
N/A.
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
In the future would love a collaboration with the one and only New York’s, STUNNA GAMBINO. I have learnt a lot from him, his style is unique.
What’s your favourite track at the moment?
Currently, I don’t have a favourite song.
What do you do when you’re not making music?
I’m a varsity student, YouTuber, and producer.
