Berlin, Germany-based electronic producer, and vocalist Zyvla has released her new single EYELASH. via buzzy German label Squama Records
The single follows on from two previous tracks ‘DreamSs’ and ‘Midsummernight’. Zylva’s stunning debut album Poems From The Dark is releasing on 09th June via Squama Records.
‘Eyelash’ starts with glitching vocals and shimmering synths, a bone-shaking bassline plays but the song always remains controlled and contemplative. Combining elements of hyper-pop, Balearic beat, and pop balladry, ‘Eyelash’, along with Zyvla’s previous two singles, show the versatility, ingenuity, and exciting range of influences to be expected from her upcoming album.
On the single Zylva says, “Eyelash is a very personal song about feeling vulnerable and insecure while at the same time seeing opportunities in life emerge but not being able to take them at that moment. But still there is also a vital force reflected in the music, and even in these moments, I feel this possibility to get in touch with it again”.
Born and raised in Bavaria, Zylva led a double life growing up. Simultaneously training as a concert pianist and producing electronic music, she eventually put her laptop aside to focus on classical music. Following her relocation to Berlin three years ago, she abandoned the confines of the classical world and has returned to the electronic music that excited her in the past. The change of scenery, and difficult breakup, gave her the space to throw herself into production and writing work.
For Zylva, creating is a form of healing. In 2020, the producer, illustrator, and poet found herself struggling with her mental wellbeing: a fresh arrival in locked-down Berlin, and newly heartbroken in a city known for its harsh winters and fleeting connections. Within this, Zylva imagined a place for hope, working on new productions she was able to channel these emotions into her own take on avant-pop.
Working bluer notes into a powerful resistance to despair, Zylva’s songwriting is as incisive as it is illuminating, never shying away from the dark shadows of everyday life.
