Urban Vault caught up with Houston, Texas-based Christian rapper, and artist Livin Water to ask him some questions about his latest release HEART FOR SALE, & more…
Born without a musical pedigree, Livin Water’s journey into the world of music was a solitary one. With no familial or social ties to the industry, he found solace in the melodies that resonated within himself, even as self-esteem issues threatened to drown out his dreams. It wasn’t until his late twenties that Livin Water dared to put pen to paper, channeling his innermost thoughts into poetry. What began as simple verses soon evolved into lyrical compositions that begged to be sung.
What is your name and where are you from?
Bryant Anderson/Livin Water is my artist name and I’m from Houston Texas.
How old are you?
49.
How long have you been making music for?
I started really late with self-esteem issues and being accepted issues. Not until late 20s – 30 years old. Another 7 to 8 learning the craft another 6 to 7 being crushed and wanting to quit with people’s opinions and expectations of what a Christian artist is. The last 5 years ignoring the demons and writing from my heart. So a little under 20 years.
How many songs/albums have you released to date?
So many lol maybe 5 to 6 Albums 7 to 10 singles, just don’t ask how many I claim.
Can you tell us about your new release ‘Heart for Sale’, the background, and the inspirations behind it?
‘Heart for Sale’ is just about the daily grind of music. I’m at a point in my life where I’m doing my best music. I have drowned out all the nice I still struggle with esteem and acceptance issues but doesn’t cripple me like before. So this song is about taking everything in my heart and pouring it out for purchase if you buy it or not it won’t stop me..’Heart for Sale’.
How have you ended up in the music industry?
It started crazy I had no connections and no idea that anyone would want to listen to anything I wanted to say. I wrote poems in secret to my wife turned into verses. Then I was like hmmm bought a beat machine at the pawn shop. Made a couple of songs. And grew from that.. while most was starting at 10 years and early teens I was being called crazy almost 30 didn’t know what a hook or a verse was never been in a studio or around anyone in music.. and that’s the crazy part I often question how I got here lol.
What do you think of the music industry in 2024?
Funny I have a song called Birth Music talking about this..I think people see what’s being pushed and just copy that style. So it’s a little unoriginal at the moment. But there are a handful of artist that don’t follow but you will never hear them being push and for a generation that is so much more talented than when I was growing up is a crime.
What have you got planned for the rest of 2024?
Right now I’m just making singles that will lead to my ultimate goal of releasing an album entitled ‘Unfinished Business’ Chapter 2 before I bow out of music. Maybe a tour and help people like me who never thought they were good enough to live through their gift.
What inspires you when you make your music?
Always been Faith Family and Music Who have you collaborated with so far in your career? Just local talent until this last album I have some semi-big names that I can’t talk about yet until the paperwork is filled out but this album will surprise everyone who knows and follows me.
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
Wow NF, Lecrae, Eminem, Joyner Lucas, and Kirk Franklin are wish lists though.
What’s your favourite track at the moment?
It’s a song called ‘ownurwave’ it’s when I said forget everyone I’m going to do me.
What do you do when you’re not making music?
Work of course, spend time with family, that’s all I really have time for at this point if my life.. but I can go see a good movie 3 or 4 times lol. But particular about who I give my time too I gave always fed of energy and bad energy I can’t be around or function….it’s even hindered a lot of performances plus i have a lot of introverted ways unless energy is 150% around me.
Which do you prefer, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram?
So stuck on that question because an artist need all but Facebook is more judgemental and set in ways Twitter I don’t understand lol so I would say Instagram…
In a few words sum up your thoughts about Urban Vault and what we’re trying to do.
I love the fact someone fighting for the big voices that aren’t giving a megaphone yet..I believe it’s a generation that will change the world through their God-given gift but will cave into trends and waves.
Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music…
