TAM TAM – Holotropic Tubabou (Album/Audio/iTunes/Spotify)

Quito, Ecuador-based percussionists trio TAM TAM recently released their highly anticipated album HOLOTROPIC TUBABOU

The album combines the mystic energy of psytrance with the rich traditions of African music, creating a genre-defying soundscape that resonates deeply with both the body and soul. ‘Holotropic Tubabou‘ is the culmination of a year-long journey of exploration, cultural immersion, and sonic experimentation. TAM TAM, consisting of three percussionists, blends electronic beats with hand-crafted African drums, including djembés, dun duns, electronic synths, and sequences tuned to 432 Hz to promote healing and enhance the trance experience. This harmonious fusion of ancient rhythms and modern psytrance delivers a transformative auditory experience, providing listeners with a powerful connection to both past and future sounds. The album’s title ‘Holotropic Tubabou’, reflects the band’s mission to create a sonic journey that transcends the physical realm. Holotropic, inspired by the concept of ‘holotropic breathwork’, emphasizes an altered state of consciousness where healing and spiritual connection are at the forefront. ‘Tubabou’ meaning white or foreigner in Malinké, symbolizes TAM TAM’s respect for African traditions and their reinterpretation through a cultural dialogue that merges the ancestral with the modern, honoring and sharing these rhythms with sensitivity and authenticity.

By seamlessly blending sacred African traditions with modern electronic elements, TAM TAM has forged a sound that is not only unique but deeply rooted in the spiritual and cultural significance of their music. Each track is designed to immerse listeners in a trance-like state, where rhythm, melody, and vibration work together to open minds and heal souls. The beats of TAM TAM’s hand-built instruments, crafted with sacred geometry, form the heartbeat of ‘Holotropic Tubabou’, while the electronic elements elevate the sound, creating a symbiotic relationship between past and present. The album promises to be more than just music; it’s an invitation to experience something beyond the physical, a transformative journey that connects audiences to ancient traditions while looking forward to the future of music.

The journey of creating Holotropic Tubabou began in January 2023, when the members of TAM TAM traveled to Guinea Conakry to immerse themselves in the deep cultural roots of malinké music. This residency, alongside the mentorship of Master Bolokada Condé, allowed TAM TAM to weave the ancient wisdom of African rhythms into their compositions. These rhythms are not just sounds, they are stories, legacies, and histories passed down through generations. The musicians of TAM TAM bring this energy forward into the future, bridging continents and cultures in a way few have dared.

TAM TAM’s live shows are an experience unlike any other. From their international tour starting in Colombia to their performances at iconic venues in Ecuador and the prestigious 3rd International Percussion Festival in Germany, TAM TAM is known for their high-energy sets that blend intricate rhythms with immersive visuals. The band’s music creates a transformative space where the ancestral and the electronic merge in front of a captivated audience. Their upcoming international tour promises to bring Holotropic Tubabou to even more stages, from Colombia’s Palmira and Cali to Ecuador’s Capital Land and Mamakilla Fest in Nanegal, all the way to the global stage at the 3rd International Percussion Festival at the German School. Each performance is an invitation to experience the raw power of rhythm, cultural exchange, and the universality of music.
