Newark, New Jersey-based Hip Hop Trio Lords Of The Underground return with their new album SO LEGENDARY, produced by German underground Hip Hop production team the Snowgoons
The Lords Of The Underground will forever be associated with the Golden Age of Hip Hop. When Nas decided to remix his track ‘Where Are They Now?’, where he asked about the fate of several forgotten legends, the Lords were among those requested to appear.
The trio from Newark, New Jersey, consists of two emcees, Doitall and Mr Funke, along with DJ Lord Jazz. The group released their debut album ‘Here Come The Lords’ in 1993, with production from Marley Marl and K-Def, including their most famous track, ‘Chief Rocka;. That same year, L.O.T.U.G. won the BET Best Rap Group Of The Year Award.
Their second album, ‘Keepers Of The Funk,’ reached No. 47 on the Billboard 200 and featured three singles, with ‘Tic Toc’ being the most successful.
Three decades later, The Snowgoons, who had already produced comeback albums with ONYX, M.O.P., and Nine, teamed up with the Lords for their new album ‘So Legendary’.
“We were out in Europe touring a lot, and we just connected like that and started working together on this album. I love the passion and work ethic from the Snowgoons, so it wasn’t hard to work with them. The beats go hand in hand with Du and Funke’s verses. You won’t be disappointed!” DJ Lord Jazz explains how the project came together and turned out.
He is not wrong. With a sound that bridges the gap between modern and classic Hip Hop styles, L.O.T.U.G. proves that they are still at the top of their game.
