Shepherd’s Bush, West London-based musician Finn Foxell, releases his highly anticipated fourteen-track debut album MAMA’S BOY
The introspective project spans across fourteen tracks and offers a refreshed musical approach as he presents a culmination of two distinct sides of his career. The intention for songs such as ‘TOUGH TIMES,’ INSIDE OUT’, and ‘DANCING ON MY OWN’ are to give Finn’s inner child a voice and express vulnerability by freeing such feelings. As he moves through styles of Rap, Soul, Rock, and beyond, the album is pieced together with sentimental voice notes steering the narrative throughout. You can feel that in its interiority, on ‘MAMA’S BOY’, we are hearing the soundtrack to the intricate workings of Finn’s mind and inner child. He moves through tributes to his mother, family, and friends throughout the album as he’s ready to talk about the struggles he faces around self-discovery and growth endured on his journey to pursue his dreams.
Finn stepped out of his comfort zone to make his debut album, ‘MAMAS BOY‘, and found himself going through heartbreak, amongst other obstacles, which he used to piece together the project. Since finalising it, he’s welcomed the birth of his firstborn into the world, giving him a fresh perspective on life and a refreshing insight into new emotional realms. Music has always been in Finn’s DNA; his Father was a songwriter, and his Mum a performer. He quickly became hooked on the idea of music, and the chronology of his journey began. Finn’s older brother introduced him to Grime, enabling an obsession with UK freestyles and cyphers, simultaneously educating him on a pioneering era broadcasted on Channel U, JDZ Media, SBTV, and GRM Daily. By his mid-teens, Finn built his family unit in Elevation Meditation, a collective of like-minded artists (P-Rallel, Lord Apex, Xav, and Louis Culture) who have since become one of the most celebrated collectives in London, representing the inner city generation to the fullest. At 25 years old, his discography has taken him far and wide, including multiple UK and EU tours and a debut performance at Glastonbury last year.
Last month, Finn hosted an exclusive live performance showcasing his reworked set alongside a full band, which will be the experience for his upcoming 3-leg tour next month. With a breezy personality, rambunctious spirit, and playful storytelling lyrics, Finn Foxell articulates the ups and downs of inner-city life for young people today. That sense of true integrity will make you want to spend more time with ‘MAMA’S BOY’.
