Moods is back with his latest EP – ‘A Beautiful Mind’ out on Boogie Angst this June supplying his unique blend of warm Electronica, Nu-Disco and Indie Dance with Hip Hop sensibilities.
His new offering effortlessly fuses the influences that established him as king of the slow jams with his first releases alongside the more dance floor oriented sound of late.
Featuring the soulful and stirring vocal talents of Sam Wills on the Dilla-esque – ‘How I feel’ and making use of the very handy guitar of Tom Misch on the title track, Moods manages to evolve his sound whilst retaining his signature polished and crisp aesthetic.
Kicking things off is title track – A Beautiful Mind built on a mesmerizing and inherently dance-able synth groove adorned with tasteful jazz guitar licks and just the right amount of disco influence to command the clubs.
Sam Wills bares his soul via his heartfelt falsetto over a sexy, slinking synth bass line on the gorgeous and Dilla-esque ‘How I Feel’. Moods’ signature funky percussion fills out the groove perfectly and Sam’s chorus brings in a whole new feel with its upbeat and singalong melodies. A future classic for sure.
Evolve is a futuristic funk-filled romp fueled by a real ear-worm of a horn phrase that’s as catchy as flu. Reverb drenched pitch-shifted vocal snaps, pads and a bouncing bass all jam together with serious style.
Closing the EP is The Hero – a track that epitomizes everything Moods is about. It’s a beat that just doesn’t quit smothered in Hip Hop and Funk vocal samples over warm synths and Fender Rhodes grooves with a Nu-Disco feel.
