As grime approaches its twentieth year while many MC’s have come and gone, P Money has staying power. His rise has been quiet but inexorable, a first class mic controller with clarity, witty lyrics, endless flow and punchlines. The substance and purpose in his music throughout his career is something he continues throughout ‘Live & Direct‘.
Wiley and JME, artists that P Money admired on his come up, and who need little introduction to UK music fans, let alone die-hard Grime fans, provide typically energetic and quick-witted guest vocals.
‘Gunfingers’ reflects P’s own humble beginnings in 2007 when two fingers in the air during youth clubs were all the rage.
“Gunfingers is a sign of expression. It’s a positive move. Something a grime beat or vocal naturally makes us do. It’s a symbol we promote in response to a tune we love. It’s been with us for decades hence the old school feel of the track and video. I wanted you to feel and see the atmospheres of pirate radio, studio and being in the ends”.
The track, produced by Skepta is Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World on BBC Radio 1 for November 2nd, and is the follow-up to ‘Panasonic’, the D33CO produced lead track. The visual, directed by Chas Appeti, premiered today, November the 3rd courtesy of The Fader.
Featuring beats from a number of Rinse’s best known producers and associates, alongside a range of guest vocalists, ‘Live & Direct’ will give fans a deeper insight into P Money’s personality than ever before.
