George The Poet has just released the video for his new single ‘Wake Up’. Directed by Issac Oboth, the video for ‘Wake Up’ was filmed in Uganda. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the country’s jaw-dropping natural scenery and vibrant towns, it sees George star in a contemporary Cinderella-like narrative with a twist.
Arguably the most layered song George The Poet has ever made, ‘Wake Up’ documents the highs and lows of being single, the work/life balance we all struggle with, raging hormones, trust issues and the commitment conundrum.
“It’s got it all.” Says George. “I hope it puts a smile on the face of anyone who has been through it. Everything is temporary”.
George The Poet is one of the most unique new artists to emerge in the UK in recent years, with his socio-political street-savvy verse having attracted the attention of music artists, actors, politicians and royalty alike. He has featured on Labrinth, Emile Sande, Wretch 32, Paolo Nutini and Naughty Boy records, collaborated with Idris Elba and supported Nas and Common on tour. He has sold out numerous headline shows, made frequent broad-ranging festival appearances (from Glastonbury to Cambridge Literary Festival), and dropped a string of critically acclaimed releases – including singles ‘1,2,1, 2’, ‘My City’, and ‘The Chicken and the Egg’ EP. All in addition to publishing his ground-breaking first book ‘Search Party’, and regularly appearing on the BBC, Channel 4 and Sky TV.
