Dream Mclean & The Last Skeptik – Easy Kill (Music Video)

Dream McLean & The Last Skeptik drops EASY KILL released on January 23rd as part of new EP, CHEESE ON BROWN BREAD

The Last Skeptik has been carving out his own lane within UK Rap, Hip Hop and grime circles since 2004, collaborating with top-tier lyricists including Giggs, Trim, Kojey Radical and Scrufizzer, as well as running his own podcast series (‘Thanks For Trying’), touring his 9-piece live band show across the UK and overseeing sound design for a series of world-leading commercial projects.

His latest EP, ‘Cheese On Brown Bread’ — a primer to his forthcoming new album — sees Skeptik team up with another long-term collaborator, Dream McLean, across four tracks of colorful and abstract UK Hip Hop that spotlight contemporary British culture through a real and of-the-time lens. On ‘UNI’, McLean name-checks David Attenborough, references playing FIFA and living like uni students, while on ‘Doing Bits’, McLean deploys a languid, half-time flow and intricate wordplay to communicate the struggles of everyday living.

Skeptik’s beats provide the perfect foil too, leaving plenty of space for McLean to express himself, but at the same time packing plenty of their own musicality — see the sporadic trumpet bursts and off-the-wall string work on ‘Doing Bits’ as a case in point. ‘Easy Kill’ and ‘Treasure’ continue similar themes apace, although ‘Treasure’ — a track that features the vocals of Virgin’s latest signee, Matt Wills — sees Skeptik nod to classic US Hip Hop beats more than anywhere else on the EP, signing off on what lands as a clever and incredibly listenable record.
