BARELY KNOW featuring KINGS, is the new single from New Zealand Maori songstress Ria Hall
The track features fellow Te Reo Maori artist Kings, who recently broke Lorde’s record for consecutive weeks at Number 1 on the New Zealand Top 40 Singles Chart.
Recorded at Arch Angel Studio located at Awataha Marae, ‘Barely Know’ is about uncertainty in relationships. This track is a reflection of Hall’s personal battles in relationships and is built around a chopping guitar riff and bass-heavy production from Kings.
The single is taken from Hall’s upcoming debut album ‘Rules of Engagement’, out October. The inspiration for the album comes from 1864’s Battle of Gate Pā (Pukehinahina), and the rules which were laid out from the native soldiers to the European. The album draws on themes of love and war, revolution, and change.
Ria worked hard over 5 years to write music that challenges the status quo, that asks the hard questions not in confrontation but rather from an honest & deeply raw perspective. Her work speaks to society on numerous levels. From the aftermath of war through colonization, to her silent suffering with internal battles, Ria has endeavored to be as open as possible in this expression.
‘Barely Know’ Will Be Officially Released Friday, August 25th via LOOP Recordings.
