Grime and UK Hip Hop artist Isaiah Dreads has revealed his brand new single ‘Real Friends’, a slickly lyricised production, out now, via Payday.

Utilising a soulful gospel opening, Isaiah’s instantly recognizable vocals lace the bassline-backed track, which was premiered by DJ Target on his 1Xtra show with Target declaring the track to be Isaiah’s

“Best record yet”.

Having performed on BBC Radio 1xtra with Mistajam, and providing Charlie Sloth with a widely acclaimed ‘Fire In The Booth’ performance, Isaiah teams up with JAE5 on the new release, a collaboration he had always been keen to get started on, adding:

“I wanted to work with JAE5 ever since I listened to the first mixtape he did with J Hus. I really like the sounds on that mixtape. We ended up doing a 2 day session together and wrote 2 songs, one of them being ‘Real Friends’. I don’t like to do any preparation prior to sessions as it may not work with the vibe on the day. So we created the tracks from Scratch” – Isaiah Dreads.

The grime star, a Dorset native, now based in London, added that ‘Real Friends’ is the most personal of all his tracks so far, paying homage to his home-town with the accompanying official video. With the track serving as an aural embodiment of Dorchester’s charms, the cleverly cut music video is shot around the town, featuring Isaiah himself and his friends, hanging on the beaches and basketball courts he played on as a teen.

“‘Real Friends’ represents where I come from and my friends from there.” He added. “I think the main message is that people come out of nowhere when good things are happening to you but really you only have a handful of true friends who stick with you through the good times and the bad” – Isaiah Dreads.

Initially inspired by old-school MCs like JME and Bashy, Isaiah was the subject of praise from ‘The Godfather of Grime’ Wiley in 2016, prompting his ‘Lone Wolf’ EP which was championed by BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens. Isaiah followed up the release with the widely acclaimed ‘Hot Spice’ feat One Acen, and ‘White Tee’, with the latter earning a place in Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist, and a 4-week stint on the 1Xtra playlist.

Still only 20 years old, ‘Real Friends’ follows his sold-out 2017 headline show in London, and showcases Isaiah’s unmistakable signature sound and cleverly written bars. The release precedes his highly anticipated upcoming EP, ‘South West,’ a collaborative production with Zdot and Krunchie, one of the UK’s leading songwriting and production teams.
