Urban Vault Interviews – Darkim Be AllahChrist

Urban Vault caught up with New York-based emcee/producer Darkim Be AllahChrist to ask him some questions about his latest release HYPOTHESIS and more…

New York emcee/producer Darkim Be AllahChrist presents ‘Hypothesis’, the self-produced single from his forthcoming album ‘Chemical Burns’, featuring Master Kbar, Supreme Just, Venge Milz, AllahWise, AllahReal, 36Zero, Fresh 3 Emcees and AllahRhamel from Fame Labs Music crew. A member of the Wu-Elements production crew, Darkim produced the Gravediggaz’ 1997 track ‘12 Jewels‘, as well as A.I.G.’s ‘Bronx War Story‘.

Explaining the single, Darkim says, “Fame Labs (his label) is 5% high scientists and the album is called ‘Chemical Burns’. So that first song of the project is ‘The Hypothesis'”.

How did you get your stage name?

I’m a 5 %. That’s my real name.

What made you decide to become an emcee?

I’m not sure. I was just involved with Hip Hop as a kid. The entire culture of it. I wrote graffiti, did a little break dancing, wore the clothes etc, etc. the only thing I never did was D.J. I’ve touched turntables before but that never developed into a thing I was doing daily. If you grow up around the basketball courts you might play a lot of basketball. I grew up around Hip Hop so I did a lot of Hip Hop.

What’s the first rap song you ever heard? Describe the moment.

When I first started hearing Hip Hop I was still a toddler. So I don’t recall what that song was. My brother bought a tape home. A more impactful event is probably when my cousin Charlie took me and my brother to a jam in the park one night. That’s when I was captivated to the point that I wanted to do what they were doing. Can’t really describe the moment. It was indescribable. That’s why I’m still doing it now.

How did ‘Hypothesis’ come together?

Well, I got my equipment set up in my rest. So it’s not like a complicated process or nothing. I produced the beat and then I wrote the rhymes. On this particular song, I didn’t write all the lyrics at one time. I wrote a couple bars then recorded those then kept repeating that process until the verses were done. Then I got the hook from a song Allah Preme did, chopped that up and flew it in. Then I got the scratches from a cat named EZPZ. And that’s pretty much how that song came together.

What are your predictions for 2018, for your career and for the world in general?

The Knicks and the Giants are going to draft superstars this year that’s gonna carry us to the chip baby.

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music…
