Los Angeles-based collective Strange Music Inc labelmates Stevie Stone and JL, along with Brooklyn, NY-based rapper Phresher drop their new track GROOMED BY THE BLOCK, from the forthcoming album KONTRA-BAND

Los Angeles, California-based collective Strange Music Inc continue their 2018 winning streak with the upcoming release of their latest project, a collaborative album called ‘Kontra-Band’ from labelmates Stevie Stone and JL. Set for release on April the 20th with features from Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko and many more, it is preceded by the lead single ‘Groomed By The Block’.

Stevie Stone and JL have worked with each other before, forming the new duo when they realized the excellent chemistry they have on records together. With four Strange Music Inc albums under his belt, including 2017’s ‘Level Up’, Stevie is one of the label’s most consistent artists. So teaming up with JL, who dropped his Strange Music debut ‘DIBKIS’ (Do It Big Keep It Strange) last year, makes for a great combination.

The results were instant, as evidenced by ‘Groomed by the Block’, produced by Disko Boogie. The song includes an appearance from rising rapper Phresher, who was most recently featured on Eminem’s ‘Chloraseptic.’ The record lives up to its name, with each artist telling tales of how they paid their dues and refined their repertoires on their way to success. The single comes with a grimy new visual that personifies the duo’s vision.

The name ‘Kontra-Band’ itself is a nod to the popular 1980’s video game ‘Contra’, which featured two characters running and gunning their way to the top.
