Urban Vault Interviews – Dwyn Duke

Urban Vault caught up with London based recording artist Dwyn Duke, to ask him some questions about his latest EP, CAN’T HAVE IT ALL and more…

After making a big splash on the urban scene in 2012, Hip Hop lyricist Dwyn Duke is back with his fresh new mixtape ‘Can’t Have It All’. “Relationships, trials and tribulation… and women! My tracks reflect my personal experiences, a collection of metaphorical truths” Dwyn confesses.

He adds, “My music is a compilation of grime and soulful music, with influences from the R&B that I grew up listening too”.

What is your name?

Dwyn Duke

Where are you from?

London

How old are you?

29

How long have you been making music?

Since secondary school.

How many songs albums have you released to date?

I released a twelve track mixtape April 2017 entitled ‘spell it right’, I am currently working on ‘spell it right vol.2” release date TBC, my most recent release, ‘Can’t have it all‘ EP was premiered by you guys on 19th of this month (April).

Can you tell us about your new EP, the background, and inspirations behind it?

Initially, this was a 5 track EP with songs such as ‘She Don’t’ & ‘Pressure’ – my common disposition in past relationships – wanting to have my cake and eat it. Myself and Classiq Beats found it hard to whittle down the track list to 5 and so the project was extending to a 10 track mixtape.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

I started doing music in school and it just went from there. The grime days offered a lot of exposure for fresh talent when it wasn’t commercial and everyone had more of a chance to get on the ‘main stage’.

What did you think of the music industry in 2017?

Best it’s ever been, so many new talents and acts are coming in and the overall quality is improving as more talent is allowed through.

What have you got planned for 2018?

Finishing my new projects and starting to perform again.

What inspires you when you make your music?

I like to write songs that follow concepts from real life situations. You will find most of my tracks have some sort of storyline or direction.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Stefflon Don!

What’s your favorite track at the moment?

Rich The Kid – Plug Walk

What do you do when your not making music?

I travel very often I’m into fitness and wellbeing, I’m always at the gym. I like to eat, shop and trade financial derivatives.

In a few words sum up your thoughts about Urban Vault and what we’re trying to do?

UV UK has always supported my music since as early as 2010! I admire the focus on creating awareness for talents like myself.

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music…
