Urban Vault caught up with Boston-based Hip Hop duo N.B.S. to ask them some questions about their recent album release SWISSVETS 2 & more…

Back by popular demand, the Boston based duo N.B.S. (cousins E’Flash and V Knuckles) pair with their Swiss compatriots DJ Tray and Jakebeatz to release ‘SwissVets 2’. The album is a culmination of lives lived and passports lost.

V Knuckles proclaims the album is, “A clash of worlds with epic results”.

That clash is provided by thunderous production. DJ Tray provides the golden era boom-bap treatment with his partner Jakebeatz lending a polished and refined touch. In a sea of albums rife with features, SwissVets 2 takes a minimalist approach with only ONYX and Tragedy Khadafi lending their voices. SwissVets 2 is out now on all digital platforms, courtesy of Empire Music, PW Records, and Big Bang Records.

Where are you from?

Originally from Boston, Ma but grew up in Cambridge, Ma

How long have you been making music?

Since adolescence. 11 & 13 even sooner. But as a Hip Hop act, about 11 & 13 yrs old.

How many songs /albums have you released to date?

Shit, the 1st album we did was ‘99. Then we dropped mixtapes from 2000 to like 2009 but the order of albums are listed below:

Can you tell us about your new video and your latest album ‘SwissVets 2’, the background, and inspirations behind it?

SwissVets 2 the Album is a brilliant collaboration of emcees from the innercity Blocks of the U.S. and producers from Basel/Switzerland. Official Hip Hop from different demographics that couldn’t be more Classic! Worldwide Heat For the Streets!

Hip Hop allows us to use violent energy in a wise and creative manner. Hence ‘Violent Wisdom’. Two worlds we are actually living. You have some who are violent and express themselves through such. Yet you have those who are wise and seek wisdom. When you have both it’s dangerous but beautiful.

Nas, 50 Cent, Kool G Rap, CNN, Premo, Black Thought and brothers like that…

What inspires you when you make your music?

Our situation, life, our friends who are doing life in jail, society there are many of influences but we truly just feel it in our blood. We love performing.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

Well we have been performing since babies. So it was innate for us. So continuing to find our way lead us right in to the music industry.

What do you think of the music industry in 2018?

It’s a lot different than what we are used to but the idea is to stay true or adapt. Both have worked quite well for us. It’s safe to say we stayed true and adapted.

What have you got planned for 2018?

Well we are pushing SwissVets 2 our latest project. We have many projects coming from our label Big Bang Records. Individual projects, tours and just so much more.

What’s your favorite track at the moment?

We respect a lot of music that has come out. It’s hard to pinpoint a favorite. We fuck with it all…

What do you do when your not making music?

If we are ever not making music we smoke weed, enjoy family time, play basketball and travel.

In a few words sum up your thoughts about Urban Vault UK and what we’re trying to do?

Well for one, you are keeping Hip Hop alive! Providing a platform to showcase acts such as ourselves and that alone is enough. We need more sites showing love and pushing real Hip Hop and dope talent. We salute y’all… Peace.
