Rising Scottish alternative R&B star, Joell, unveils his short film to accompany his upcoming EP, ‘IGNORANCE’, to be released on the 29th of June

Joell is a modern singer, songwriter and music producer emerging from Scotland, bringing refreshing new sounds, beautiful visuals, and solid aesthetics with his debut project ‘Ignorance,’ – Joell’s brand new EP, to be released on June the 29th, and his accompanying short film.

The sounds combine leftfield Hip Hop, experimental RnB, with a modern Trap twist – accompanied by a sensual, dulcet voice. Alongside the music come haunting, atmospheric visuals, that show a mood sometimes overlooked in more mainstream releases.

Working out of the same studio with his good friends in Edinburgh, Young Fathers, Joell takes listeners on a journey with his dark, melodic sounds, bass-driven, 808 drum patterns and savvy metaphorical lyrics. Joell paints a picture of life in modern society and his fight against mundanity. He is standing up and influencing youth to break out of their comfort zones and not follow the crowd while prompting the audience to get lost in the atmospheric vibes.

Joell had given very little away other than a short artist teaser he dropped late last year, called ‘Dead.’

Joell details the EP, “Everything was created and self-funded by myself and my friends. Self-taught individuals from a basement in Young Fathers studio in Leith, Edinburgh. Scotland’s stuck in its traditional ways, especially with regards to Hip Hop music. This project has taken me a year to package up and through music, I can finally express my experience of the ups and downs of modern-day youth, life, and love. I don’t believe in conforming to today’s society and the aim of ‘Ignorance’ is to push listeners to be different, be unique, be creative and be yourself.”

His melodic voice and resonant tones can also be heard as a feature on Edinburgh art collective, 131 Northside and their 2017 project, ‘Lost Memories,’ who’s member’s Billy and Woozie also feature on his EP.

Joell is raising the bar for Scottish Hip Hop and is definitely one to watch out for in 2018.
